From the moment I saw the entry door to the lower level, with its small, sliding cover observation window (putting me in mind of Prohibition and the absolute need for secrecy/privacy), I wanted to knock, say the password-of-the-day, enter, and enjoy the speakeasy before Elliot Ness and his do-gooders could raid the place. Entering the space beyond the "security" door (the once necessary doorman was decades absent from his post), was like stepping back in time, but in living color! The bar's warm wood interior was very inviting and gave a solid air of comfort and style to the eyes. Clean, roomy, and welcoming, I felt almost at home, like a character from "Cheers" coming onto the set. From the first greeting, to a last "good night" our host, Benjamin, was a delightful wealth of knowledge, not only of his drink making and serving craft (in which he excels!), but also the history of Prohibition and the mobsters it helped to spawn. The best martini I ever drank was served to me that night. With the music setting an upbeat contagious mood of happiness, our conversations with staff and fellow patrons alike were lively, informative, insightful and fun. My fiancé and I ordered a Cajun Shrimp Dip appetizer. When it arrived piping hot and serving with crispy crostini bread we were very pleased. Compliments to the kitchen on a timely and delicious appetizer! With the perfect atmosphere, great food, and an absolutely splendid beverage crafter (thank you so much Benjamin for the demonstration of an Old Fashioned, which I will try upon my return) we had a marvelous relaxing time and had to leave altogether too soon to suit us. We will definitely be back, and will tell our friends to check out The Bend Soeakeasy Bar and Grill in Lake...
Read moreMy family has lived at The Lake of the Ozarks for the past 40 years. Needless to say, in that time, we have seen a great deal of change, and a good number of restaurants come and go. So, when I share with you that our dining experience at Horseshoe Bend Bar and Grill was hands down the worst experience we have ever endured, please understand I do not say these words lightly.
The service started out well enough. We ordered, received our drinks and salads, and waited, and waited and waited some more. An hour later, two people in our party of three were lucky enough to get their mediocre meals. However, the third member of our group waited an additional 15 minutes for a steak and a baked potato so undercooked and cold, the butter would not even melt.
We did speak with a manager, who offered to comp some of our drinks as well as provide us a free dessert. While appreciated, too little too late.
Our waitress was another story. She was rude, and actually walked away while we were trying to speak with her. I’m sure this is just her side gig while she obtains a Ph.D. in Communication or Public Relations, but her behavior was completely unacceptable.
Please understand, I worked as a server for many years while growing up at The Lake, and understand how challenging a busy Saturday night can be. This lady was RUDE!
I hope you heed my warning and avoid this establishment at all costs, but if you are the brave sort who appreciates a challenge, I suggest you go soon, as I don’t expect their doors to remain open...
Read moreThe wife and I decided to have date night and tryout Horseshoe Bend B&G. We’ve been to this spot before when it was “The Bend” but hadn’t been back since it was new.
The atmosphere is great, the Bar was hopping and laughs and conversations gave a welcoming feel to the restaurant.
The Staff is very friendly, and makes you feel like you’ve know each other for years. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out and has a great view of the lake with a great covered patio.
The wife and I ordered a round of Old Fashions, mine smoked, and they were very good, our compliments to the Bar Staff!!
For dinner we ordered the Sea Bass with green beans and side salad, along with the Prime Rib with mashed potatoes and lobster bisque.
The Sea Bass was very flavorful and flakey with just the right amount of crispiness around the edges. The green beans had great flavor with their bacon bits and I believed they were smoked.
My Prime Rib was a perfect medium all throughout, super tender and great flavor. The mashed potatoes are velvety smooth and very good. The lobster bisque had great flavor as well and is a favorite of the lake.
Definitely a 10/10 experience all around. We will definitely be...
