El Compadre — Restaurant in Mitchell

I hate to give a bad review to a local business, but this was the worst dinner we've had in years. My food was burnt. Wife's was flavorless. No saucers with the chips & watery salsa & queso (tasty at least) but the watery dip in the middle of the table and trying to not get it everywhere... I tried each item of my seafood sampler and it didn't just look overcooked, it was (see pic). I ate enough of the burnt fries to get full, plus what I tried of the other burnt food (catfish, lobster taquitos, popcorn shrimp, coconut shrimp & seafood nachos). Couldn't even stand more than 1 coconut shrimp, that's bad. The 2 sauces were really good at least, to try and cover up the burnt flavor. Wife's rice, beans, & quesadilla were flavorless and she didn't even try her taco. I usually clean my plate & the picture shows what I left. Doggy bag? No thank you. We were never asked how everything was, so we didn't comment there - wasn't trying to get anything comped or seem like it, but it was bad. Staff were nice, so not bombing the star rating. BUT, at least a cook and 2 servers had to have seen this food looking so overcooked, so why let it go out like that? Employees must be empowered to decide something isn't good enough, explain & apologize to the table, & remake it edible. Also, we came maybe a year or 2 ago and I remember it being good. Don’t waste your money on the cheese dip! They give you very little cheese and on top of that they water it down. Cheese came out bubbly and very thin, watery. After it had set and cooled off for a good moment the cheese did not film over like normal Mexican cheese does and remained very thin. It appears they are adding water to the cheese to make it go further!

This was the best location as far as the food quality and taste goes compared to the other two locations I have tried to date, which was Bedford and French Lick.. Except for the cheese dip.

Highly recommend the Authentic Mexican Guacamole, this was so fresh and tasted wonderful! Price is a bit steep for the amount you get. Portion size was too small compared to price.

Salsa was good and was better than most Mexican locations when it came to flavor although it was puréed into salsa juice. If you like a little bit of tomatoes tiny or bigger chunks, then you will be disappointed. You literally could almost drink it.

I was learning on giving them a 3 star review as the food was better than their other locations but I’m not because when I asked what they were doing to the cheese they acted like that was the way it was supposed to be. One of the reasons you go to Mexican Restaurants is for good quality cheese.

How come they can't ever get it right even after being told multiple times steak and chicken nachos is all I want with cheese and lettuce and everytime I end up just getting a little bit of steak and a whole bunch of chips instead of steak and chicken nachos I might as well get chips and dip at this point pay 12 bucks to eat dinner and they just give me a snack if I just wanted chips I'd stay home and eat I won't be going back for awhile I've been a regular customer for a good bit but if they gonna treat me this way ill go to the Chinese place they have real good food and they actually give you enough food to where you can get full get it together elcompadre give people what...
