My family rolled into Mitchell after touring the Painted Hills, hungry + dehydrated. At first we were nervous that there was only one restaurant to choose from for sustenance, but we needn’t have worried. Tiger Town Brewery + Pub was a delightful and delicious experience! The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming (as a person of color this meant a lot to me in a unknown small town), very helpful and attentive. The food was beyond description—it was so gooooood! It was on par with (or better than) any five dining food restaurant. We had true-to-England style fish n chips. I’ve never had it this authentically anywhere in America, tbh. It was delicious and I basically got a whole piece of haddock; their teriyaki wings which were so good my family was fighting over them; their gyro, which my sun-starved + dehydrated daughter downed in minutes. We had the Greek nachos were incredibly good. My husband devoured them. The pita must have been deep fried *swoon.* The grilled cheese was next level and so was the BLT! The Tiger Town Pub would fit right in in Portland. If we had stayed longer, we would be able to get our sleeping bags + pillows and lay out in their open space while they played a movie on their outdoor screen. Again, the staff, food, ambiance were all 5 stars! Best part? The food was inspired by two marines favorite fare from around the world! Love it! Also, Kelsey (a server there) has great tourist suggestion! Thanks, girl 😉

When you are finished doing whatever you need to do in and around Mitchell, Oregon, or if you just need a break from the day's shenanigans, Tiger Town Brewing Co. is the place to stop to wet your whistle. I was pressed for time and I needed to get out of Oregon by nightfall for... reasons, therefore I was unable to sample the food. But from what I could see it is typical gastropub fare: burgers, fish and chips, etc. Folks were leaving with smiles on their faces so it is logical to conclude they done it right. Outdoor seating is plentiful and it is pet friendly, so if Dogmeat is accompanying you while you're wastelanding, your buddy has a place to chill while you guzzle some beers or Nuka Colas. ZZ Top was blasting while I sipped my ale and ploted the best course to stay under the radar. Local gas station down the road has diesel and regular unleaded. Unfortunately no premium so I had to press on to a different gas station for my high compression ratio engine. Good vibes here folks so please them right when you come to visit. Fantastic selection of beers out in the middle of nowhere. I do very much recommend stopping here as it has a story behind it (as so many of these places do), and we will be one of them.

I had dinner here two nights in a row as we were staying in the Oregon Hotel just a few feet down the road. I absolutely adored this place!! It was noisy with many local patrons stopping by for drinks and dinner or just catching up and being merry - this was such a pleasant vibe! Boisterous, but absolutely fun! 🙂 As this is the only restaurant/pub in Mitchell that serves dinner, it can get crowded. On my first night here, we’d to wait 30 minutes for a table; but, on the next day, we were seated right away. A huge shout out to their staff - they were lovely!! Friendly and inviting, they made me feel welcome! The food was great too - I’d the beyond burger and the garden salad. They were both yummy! Surprisingly, they’ve many vegan/vegetarian options. Definitely try their ciders - its delicious! I tried the huckleberry lemon, prickly pear and blood orange ciders - my favorite was the huckleberry lemon! 😋😋 I loved this place so much that I was telling my friend that I’d consider moving to Mitchell just from my experience here! 😅

Perhaps Tiger Town has charm and convenience mainly in Summertime, but I have a strong feeling it goes way beyond that. I can’t really say enough about my own experience at this little venue. Places like Tiger Town are so good that they inspire me to write full reviews on a mere Google page (which isn’t so mere in the grand scheme anyway). I would even go so far as to say that people should visit this area for two reasons: John Day National Monument—and Tiger Town. Indeed the combination of both yield a great experience.

If I could title this review it would probably read “Ghost Town OF Mitchell? Sure. But Vegans Welcome!”, and everyone else is too. Tiger Town is by no means a vegan restaurant, but their vegan options totally stand out in a stark land.

In my experience, any venue that serves both vegan and non-vegan (regular) food and/but makes their vegan food really well, usually makes their non-vegan food really well, too. Indeed I have not tried their meat dishes, but I heard from a few meat-eating customers that my ‘vegan-venue-ish-food-theory’ is true with Tiger Town.

Tiger Town is the small town of Mitchell’s very own micro brewery. Let’s not mince words, or concepts; Oregon is the American state of libations, hands down (in my opinion). You can find micro breweries, distilleries and wineries that redefine your idea of beer, wine and hard stuff here in the Pacific Northwest. Perhaps I’m just not experienced enough to be fully educated on that subject, but with little doubt it seems to me that Tiger Town is no exception to that well-proven idea. One could almost consider Tiger Town an indirect extension of the acclaimed breweries and wineries of the Bend and Deschutes area, which aren’t far.

TT suggestions for fellow beer lovers (who like it a little lighter): I recommend either the Lone Rock (wheat), the Lock Lemond (Scottish Heather Ale) or the Sutton Mountain IPA (oddly not harsh or strong).

For Vegans: There are only a few stir-fry-ish-rice-ish-noodle-ish variations to choose from, but those few are great. There is also a beyond burger and some tiny other options that do fine. If you’ve had any experience as a traveling vegan, you’ll know that even these small options are a godsend in a mid-state small town with little service, especially when they’re actually good.

Last notes: the interior environment is like old-saloon-style, but realistically and not prepped or fake. It’s totally lived-in and there are little messes and randomly placed storage items to prove it. It’s the most genuine type of small-town-venue environment you can get.

Apparently on Fridays they have movie night out in the back, and on Thursdays they have a band perform back there.

The servers are all nice and have loads of personality.

Okay, I think/hope...

05/13/24 & 05/14/24 - We were a bit disappointed they were out of a number of things we would have liked to try, but even then Tiger Town Brewing Co might just be the stealth crown jewel of Oregon restaurants. Not because they serve hoity-toity dishes, but because their food is just so damn good, especially for being the only option in Mitchell OR [population 130!!], where they could probably get away with being 20-25% as good as they actually are.

Food: The PittsBurgh Sandwich was probably the best pastrami sandwich I ever ate [and I'm 75!]. Got another on second nite there. Wife's burger was also one of most delicious either of us has tasted in many years [sort of wished after the fact that I'd had one of these on 2nd nite just to have something different]. On 2nd nite wife got a great BLT that had enough bacon on it to choke a buffalo [in a good way ;

Food and drinks were good. They were only a notch down from a big brewery in Bend, where I used to go. Fish and Chips was so good, also my Long Island Ice Tea. If only for food and beverages I will give this a 5 star review.

I got little black menu with title “Late Dinner Menu”. (And I got there at 4:30 pm on Saturday). The server who helped us never explain why she gave us this. My husband started to complain and mentioned about the Fish and Chips on the reviews that people talking very high. But the menu only offered sandwiches, wings, sides and dessert.

I have to go back inside to ask about the drink menu, and the server told me they don’t have any and I have to read whatever written on the wall. But she offered some beer samples if I want.

Anyway… we placed our drinks and food order and wait. While waiting I saw people came after us got different menu, they’re big and full with pictures. Totally different than what I got. I feel like I’ve been treated differently so I went back inside and ask if I deserved to get the menu that other people got. Another server apologized and let me take two.

Beside that, I heard that they offered “special” to some other guests, which is Fish Taco. I love fish taco but I don’t know that they have it till I bite my wings.

I still want to come back, just wish for different treatment. I don’t need to be treated special, just equal with other guests who spent the money there. I still tipped 20% gratuity cause the food and...
