I took my wife, step-mother and father there for an upscale experience. We were excited to try the High Point as it is one of the only truly upscale places we have found near our home in Winchester (or so it is presented). The building is interesting, with an interesting history, which is touted to have included Al Capone history although the actual details are not supported nor is there historical evidence of the Maybee House being a haven for gangsters on their way to Florida homes. The house is cool, older and you are seated at tables in the different rooms in the house. I have included a picture of the noticeably large spider web that was just a couple feet from my wife's head. Attention to the cleaning details needs to be addressed. The menu is pricey for this area, but not unreasonable for upscale places, with a filet being $37 and comes with the salad or soup and a side. You can have any of the delicious sounding salads for no up-charge. Our table enjoyed 4 entrees - the filet with asparagus, the filet gorgonzola alfredo, another filet with baked potato, and the Alaskan salmon. All of the entrees were very good. All of the food was very tasty and the portions were generous. I ordered the Harvest salad and it was delicious My wife ordered the Bibb BLT which was bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and gorgonzola cheese. It was delicious but more "bleu cheesey" than she likes so we switched - I love bleu cheese so we were both happy. I ordered two appetizers , the Brie en Croute, The brie was warm and the pastry crust delicious. I did notice that the grapes that were served beside the dish tasted funny, and then I noticed that they had mold on them! We were served a dish with moldy, nasty grapes. I brought this to the attention of our waitress and she took the grape I handed her and scurried off - never to mention it again, nor did she remove the tainted dish from our table. If it were my business, I would have insisted on providing a replacement dish that was well inspected, and of course not charge. It was never discussed again save for my telling the waitress I could not believe she left the moldy plate on our table. I also ordered the thick bacon appetizer, and it was delicious. The service was good under the circumstances as the waitress had six tables going at once (we were the first table seated in that room). She was doing all the drinks, busing tables and serving the food and taking the orders. She needed assistance, which she had none. All in all - the menu is wonderful, and the place has potential, but if you are going to be up-scale, you had better be on the details a whole lot better than we experience last night.

A one and done experience. My husband and I are from out of town, but visit due to family being in the area. We’ve had High Point on our radar for the last several visits and finally found a spot in our schedule to dine here. I don’t know what other fine dining options are available around here, but I would not choose to go back to High Point again. Parking was easy and we walked in and we were seated almost immediately. The table we were seated at was the first table by the front door, which was left standing wide open for most of the time we were there which allowed for a large amount of flies to bother us for most of the meal. We were in an extremely high traffic zone seated immediately in front of the bar. It was noisy and definitely more uncomfortable of a table. We were seated for 20 minutes. Our server had been around once to give us water and said she would be back to take our drink order, but she never came back. I flagged down the hostess to let her know and within a few minutes there was another server that came. She never told us her name, didn’t acknowledge that we had been there for a while (almost seemed to want to gloss over it) immediately took our drink, appetizer and entree order all at once. Drinks came out at a reasonable pace. Our appetizer, the fried green tomatoes and bread, came out at a reasonable pace as well. The fried green tomatoes were delicious! Would recommend those. The salads came out at a reasonable pace but left something to be desired. I got the blackberry salad and it was just okay. There were 3 blackberries on it. I didn’t end up eating much. We ordered a house salad with no onions for our son, but of course it came out with onions on it. The main course, entrees, took a long time to come out- even though the server had our order from the beginning. I ordered the steak and lobster, medium rare, and as the menu showed with the mushroom sauce. My steak ended up with a garlic butter and horseradish sauce and was cooked more medium. Both other people in my party’s steak was overcooked as well. The hostess did provide us with a quarter of a key lime pie “to go” before we left to apologize for the delay at the beginning. She was very pleasant. The reason I give this a 3 star instead of a 2 star is due to the atmosphere. The house itself is very neat and I appreciate the history behind the restaurant and want to support this type of business. It’s possible we ended up here on an “off night” and that’s the reason for the mediocre all around experience- but on a Friday night, with prices what they were asking, I would have expected so much more.

This is one of the most happy accidents we've had when it comes to eating at a restaurant. We had no idea where to eat. It was 8:00 and we didn't have any idea what to do but we found this in Google maps as a suggestion near us. So we made a reservation and just roll the dice. Wow! I can't believe we got this lucky. And I can't believe this place is in the middle of nowhere like this. We came to see shows at the caverns in Pelham and stayed nearby in altamont and drove about 25 minutes to this restaurant. It turned out to be one of the best meals I've had all year. I ate duck with a blackberry sauce on it and mixed crispy potatoes that were sweet potatoes and blue potatoes and wonderfulness. The soup I had was lobster bisque and it was so good that it felt like 10 different things happening with each bite. I literally had a foodie experience here. Especially once the soup hit the table. The person I was with ordered the salmon and had a blackberry salad with it as well as french fries. That were so good. I almost ate half of them off of their plate lol. If we weren't so full and satisfied we would have had dessert because some of that seemed incredible. Our server Jordan was so nice and accommodating and it looked like she had had a good evening of hard work already. So it was nice to reward her at the end with tips and compliments. She's a wonderful server and obviously experienced at helping people. she's super nice and that's all that matters when it comes to service as long as you're getting your food and drinks on time. And we didn't wait. Hardly at all for the food. The person who helped us at the door and on the phone was also super sweet and I really appreciated them helping us get a table late on a Friday. My journey here was surprising and the food was shockingly good. There's so many things on the menu I want to order and try again so I hope I make it down here at some point to take my person out to eat at this wonderful restaurant. Kudos to the chef owners and all of the staff for being so good at serving people this wonderful food. Oh, and I didn't even mention how beautiful the place was. We set outside and read about its history online and looked around at the flowers and saw the fountain, gorgeous! This is a real restaurant that you should...
