Rustic Saloon — Restaurant in Montello

My husband, sons, and I had dinner here. The waitress was quick to attend to us and she was very friendly. We started with their white cheddar cheese curds. My husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger with fries, my older son had the chicken strip basket and the bacon mac. My youngest son had the kids mini corn dog with fries, and I had the Wisconsin burger and tater tots with cheese.

The cheese curds didn’t have much flavor. The breading was pretty plain. My son said that his bacon mac was really good and very creamy. He said his chicken strips were dry, but the fries were good. My youngest didn’t eat, sometimes he’s too excited to be at a new restaurant. He had a generous helping of corn dogs and fries.

My husband and I agreed that the burger patties didn’t have any flavor. They weren’t really juicy either. The cheese curds in the Wisconsin burger gave it a little added flavor, but not what I was expecting. We liked the waitress, she did a great job, and the atmosphere was nice. Maybe the cook was having an off night. We would go back and give the food...

First time and was on a small trip. We went on a Friday night and had the fish dinner! It was delicious!! It comes with coke slaw and baked beans that are served family style along with bread. I had the old fashioned which was on special and I've never been asked if I wanted it sweet or sour and with whisky or bourbon... must be a Wisconsin thing... however I had sweet with whiskey and it was perfect!! The only issue I had with service was theu were out of rye bread so they brought Hawaiian type rolls and they were out of perch which was the special and they were out of potato salad... which shows it was a great place that was busy so kudos to them.... however 3 people in our party had to change their order because of things being out. If you go make reservations lol because it's a busy place we only had about a 15 minute wait but others we seen waited longer... as for atmosphere it wasn't that it was bad it was just so incredibly loud that you couldn't visit with the people in your party at your table .... I will...

Although it's standard bar food for the most part, there are some outstanding items. The cole slaw is the best around of the Montello restaurants and the shrimp 🍤 is the best is battered very nicely not the standard sandy textured crunch it's a smooth very nicely breaded shrimp that you don't often see. I'm thinking they do this in house rather than a frozen food service fare. They could use more tables as it gets popular on a Friday night so plan for a wait at peak times but it's worth it for what's offered in the area. It can get loud if they have entertainment inside it's usually outdoor entertainment unless weather brings it inside I'm thinking?. I only added that as I'm hearing impaired and I couldn't enjoy conversation during one of my visits but otherwise this place is one of go to choices in...
