A cool looking place from the road but I would not go back! A beautiful back patio with stunning views over the forest- could be a very lovely place but this is a place where you must serve yourself completely. I initially sat on the front patio but there seemed no interest from inside to anyone on the patio know you had to order inside. There were 3 people and there dog who arrived before me and when they went inside and di not come back out I realised I needed to go inside to seek service. As soon as I walked in with my 2 well-behaved dogs I was greeted by a gentleman behind the counter who told me they welcomed dogs on the front and back patio but not inside. I started to make my way to the back patio and he told me the only menu was on the chalkboard inside. It was clear from his comment he wanted me on one of the patios with my dogs and when I asked if he had a menu I could take with me he said no - -fortunately a co-worker piped up and said it was OK for me to have the dogs whilst I ordered. (Mind you this is a counter with no seating and the restaurant portion of the inside was not in the vicinity of the counter).
The back patio was beautiful and the food was decent. The place advertises fresh ingredients but the avocado was the spreadable costco style. The food was good otherwise and the view was good - I guess in spite of acting dog-friendly when I was first greeted this is really not a dog-friendly place (or at least not by this staff member) and on top of that - -I didn't even get a glass of water or offered a drink with my meal.
The decent breakfast and the great back patio view are the only reasons this review is not a 1 star. This is the worst stop in my 3 years of vacationing in Carmel area with my dogs and I will never stop...
Read moreWhile the food tasted good, it was over priced and the attitude from the staff was atrocious. We were driving back north from Julia Pfeiffer SP, and I made my husband drive out of our way past Big Sur SP because this place caught my eye. It was a snap decision and I did not read the reviews about the rude service. If I had, we would have just gone to one of the other restaurants along this stretch of highway 1.
The girl taking orders and then bringing the food out seemed highly bothered to be doing her job. She was rude and very abrupt with us. We had ordered a lemonade for my daughter, and after paying was told they don't have lemonade and the alternative offered was a very small bottle of apple juice (which was WAY over priced at $3.50). The apple juice, as over priced as it was, cost less than the lemonade I had already paid for and no effort was made to reconcile the difference or apologize that I did not get the product I paid for. I learned my lesson about tipping at the time of ordering instead of at the end of the meal. I would have never left anything close to the tip I gave had I paid at the...
Read moreDecided to pull into this place on our way back home from a camping trip, ran across it right about at lunch time. The place looked really nice inside and had a lot of great outdoor seating as well. We chose to sit outside overlooking the creek and trees and even though it was a little chilly they had heaters and fireplaces everywhere.
We were right at the beginning of a lunch rush, but food still came out in a timely manner. Everything we had was delicious. It was a tad pricey for us with it being only lunch, but being on a trip it's a nice treat for sure! And of course in this day and age, I'd expect places like this to charge more because costs have gone up across the board. I'd also expect to pay more just for the location of being basically in the middle of nowhere... But it sure is nice when the food is delicious and the ambiance matches, to make it so much worth the extra price. I would definitely go here again...
