This is such a cute little place. The pizza is fantastic. Seriously some of the best that I've had. The cheese tastes better than anything I've had before. I don't know if it's farm fresh or what but it's so good. The smoked brisket chili was also fantastic. The smokey flavor of the brisket is so well incorporated into the chili. The staff was also really friendly and patient. We stopped in for what we thought would be a quick grab and go and decided to eat there after we'd already placed our order. While doing work here in Monterey, my customer recommended this place to us and I'm glad she did. With it only being my second time here, yesterday I ordered the Italian sub on chiabatta bread with zucchini fries and a classic black and white milkshake, and toast I ordered the Monterey sub, with smoked oysters, and a black raspberry ridge specialty milkshake and both days the food was beyond amazing, plus the milkshakes were to die for. The Highlander’s wood-fired/brick oven style pizza is the best we’ve had anywhere. Although the price for their large (which is Huge) cannot be beat, The Highlander uses only high quality ingredients for their dough and toppings. And the tastiness doesn’t stop at pizza: their fried chicken is addictive and their over-stuffed subs are made with the freshest rolls.
