Rare is the time when a restaurant provides excellent food, efficient and comfortable service, and a pleasant atmosphere where patrons can relax and let their senses explore a fantastic meal. The Blawenberg Bistro at the Blawenberg traffic light is a beautiful example of such a dining experience.
This morning was a brunch day; I ordered an omelette with peppers and onions, a side of bacon, and sourdough toast. Supposedly simple New Jersey diner food, but not at this Bistro. The omelette was perfectly cooked and folded, not over cooked and tough, and the peppers and onions were sauteed to a wonderful tenderness with full flavor of fresh vegetables. The bacon was cooked crisp but not overdone to bacon bits, and the sourdough bread was so fresh that you could smell the hint of rising yeast.
The coffee was spot on for strength and aroma; best enjoyed black. Finally, the fresh orange juice was naturally sweet and contained enough pulp to enjoy what oranges juice should taste like.
In conclusion, I highly recommend the Blawenberg Bistro for breakfast or lunch. There is a sign saying, "All food is cooked to order," and you will enjoy this rare experience in informal dining.
The Blawenberg Bistro does catering for all occasions. I spoke to the owner, Jenn, about the BB catering a dinner for my service organization, and I look forward to reviewing the catering menu.

Read more"I have been a Blawenburg Bistro regular for nearly two years. Since my semi-retirement I go out for breakfast and coffee several times a week. The Bistro is now my number one favorite for both breakfast and lunch. Their coffee and food are the most flavorful of any establishment I have been to between Hopewell Borough and Skillman. I recently asked them where their eggs, chicken, and arugala come from, as they taste so good and fresh. I was told they source their eggs and produce from farms in surrounding areas. Jennifer, the manager, is particular about the high quality of their food and service.
The Bistro has a variety of sandwiches and salads to choose from. My favorite sandwich is the fig and brie on whole grain bread. My favorite salad is a toss up between the organic arugala salad and the spinach salad. Their curried chicken salad and roasted sweet potato salad are unique to the Bistro. And if you would like some wine with your lunch a bottle of Unionville Vineyards wine is available.
And their baked goods? Out of this world. I highly recommend the bagels, chocolate cake, and vegan chocolate brownies.
So now I often come here and bring some work to do so I can stay for both breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere is bright, airy, and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and attentive to detail and to great service. And now that it is spring we can also sit in the spacious outdoor area. Read moreBlawenburg Bistro is more than just a sweet corner cafe. They offer some really amazing plates that can fill you up as well as delicious baked goods that sell out quickly because of how amazing they are. I swear theirs is the best blueberry muffin I’ve ever had!!! I went in to try their newest items, the persimmon vanilla scone and the gochujang scallion and sesame biscuit. My friends and I were able to get them fresh out of the oven and I can’t stop thinking about them. The persimmon vanilla scone was warm, buttery and sweet and tasted exactly how it smelled. I was most excited about the biscuit. The gochujang brings only the tiniest but perfect amount of heat to complement the scallions in the biscuit. We turned it into a brunch by ordering their avocado toast which was also excellent. I LOVE bread and this bread was GOOD, offering the perfect crunch to the smooth avocado on top. The feta, pickled red onion and pomegranate glaze added the proper balance of salt, tang and sweetness to complete the dish. If you’re not sure whether or not to add the egg I can tell you that you don’t need it unless you just LOVE eggs. My friend gets the veggie bowl every time we meet here so I know it must be delicious. I got to meet the owner, Jen, who spoke to us about the new items and share her love of food. I am so glad I had the chance to try the new items and will come...
