You want food, booze, vape, game, anime, and more, all in a cozy, welcoming environment on the cheap? Then GTSouth is the place to go in Montgomery.
GTSouth is a phenomenal "tavern" south of I-85 in a small shopping center next to Roses. This is a 19+ affair, but what you get is a strong blend of every geek culture you can imagine. A simple selection of excellent food, including burgers, sandwiches, tacos, nachos, and basic snacks lead to earning game passes, 1.5 hour tickets that grant access to play a huge library of games on classic and modern systems, all in easy access of the bar, plus a multiplayer pit in the front. Board games are welcome at all times, with plenty of room to play everything from simple card games to massive strategy and Euro games. A menu of e-cig juices are available to sample and create, all in-house and for very inexpensive prices. Meanwhile, the back area offers a custom built couch with plenty of cushions and a library of movies and anime to watch.
But you came here for the drinks, didn't you? A good selection of beer and gluten-free ciders are available, along with a massive menu of fandom-inspired cocktails, mixes, shots, challenges, and even "noob" drinks, plus Coke products and energy drinks including Bawls. The array is dizzying, but all satisfying. Drinks and vaping are all allowed inside, which adds to the ambiance of the faux stone walls and dimmed lights. You're even allowed to take drinks to the micro-theatre, but only via the bar-provided "sippy cups".
This place is all about comfort and fun, which shows in the employees and the care put into building the space. Everyone from workers to regulars are decked out in geeky attire, from simple Zelda shirts, to rainbow cat ears, to crazy wizard outfits. Nods to the culture are everywhere, from Fallout signs, Mario posters, Dr. Who standups, and even Tribbles hidden around the shop! Everyone from the workers, managers, and patrons are all helpful, playful, and are able to adapt to requests, issues, and even just kicking back to relax.
This is not your average bar. This is above and beyond what I expected a bar could ever be. When I first heard about it, I expected it was a locally-owned Dave and Buster's style shop. But it was so much better. This community is open and lively, with events and deals aplenty. This will be a new regular stop for me, as I know I can always come in for a Shy Guy burger, fresh clouds of Dante's Waffleberry, and finish it off with a Black Pearl or Woodchuck over a game of Star Trek: Catan. Absolutely my highest...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI genuinely like this place. Me and my brother were in Montgomery for a work trip for a couple weeks. We were bored of our hotel room and wanted something fun to do, so we checked events on face book and seen they had a dungeons and dragons night, with different video games to play, so we gave it a try. We had a good time everyone was super nice and welcoming. We did not realize it also had a bar, I myself am only 20 years old and do not drink or have a desire to drink(you only have to be 19 to enter), so I just played some games, chatted with people, and had a really good time planning on returning for the Thursday open mic night. We came back the next night for the open mic night and enjoyed some stand up comedy. The only thing that bothered me was there is multiple signs throughout the place stating they donāt accept any hate of any kind, which I completely agree with and feel everyone deserves nothing but love and kindness and respect no matter what. Yet during the stand up comedy show one of the entertainers made a hateful joke stating he had so much power and felt like God, except he was real, which maybe to an atheist was a funny joke, but to me who has a very strong Christian faith I didnāt appreciate it, but overlooked it. Then after the show was over, I was chatting with a different comic and he made another joke about everyone in Montgomery being Jesus lovers and thereās nothing to fun to do. So I guess I donāt understand the premise of the signs saying they donāt accept any hate of any kind, yet they can throw disses at religious people during the main show. Like I said I really like the place. Everyone was friendly and I had a good time, I just didnāt appreciate the Christian hating and donāt think Iāll...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUPDATE!!! October: phew idk if its bc of covid or what but the inconsistency with the experience here is honestly disappointing. drinks are always great and the staff is friendly butā¦i keep coming back hoping i can dance the night away and it hasnt worked out even though its supposed to be dance parties, celebrations, etc. I would love to see them switch up the DJ as well. ( no offense to their usual DJ ). also they dont dim the lights all the way on weekends so its just feels kind of dry. idk, this used to be my fave spot but i left this weekend shortly after entering bc it was justā¦kind of dead. but when they hit they really HIT!! gotta check it out and see for yourself š¤·š¾āāļø
May: 5 star 1st Impression-Wow my partner and I happened to stumble into this lowkey tavern with no expectations of what would be inside and we were PLEASANTLY surprised!!! The atmosphere is nothing short of a geek sanctuary with board games on board games, a video game tournament, AND karaoke (it was karaoke night)! All the music that played was right up my alley and everyone in the building was so warm and welcoming. NOT TO MENTION THE DRINKS which are inspired by gaming/pop culture references and super tasty. From just my first visit I am excited to go back and see what more this place has to offer. It feels like a safe...
