HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! We wanted to try a new place to eat while we were here from out of town so we picked River Burger. The place seemed appealing enough from the outside but was poorly lit and dirty on the inside. We should have taken this as our sign to turn around and leave but unfortunately for us we decided to stay. The girl at the register seemed irritated to be there and rushed through taking our order, maybe just an angsty teen, but it only added to the poor experience we were about to have. The soda machine was out of ice and they had a cooler to the side of it with a scoop for the ice but who knows what filthy hands had already been reaching in there. We decide to make the best of it and sit and wait for our food. Unfortunately, when we received our food several of our orders were wrong. My mom ordered a plain hamburger but it came with cheese on it and due to her lactose intolerance, she decided to go let them know and request her sandwich be remade. That is when things got CRAZY. A man from behind the counter (chef? owner? not sure who) came and chased my mom down and started YELLING at her. He BERATED my 73 year old mother like she was a child, telling her what a terrible person she was, that she was an awful parent for raising her kids to be wasteful, that he was going to have to throw away her hamburger and remake it and started rambling about starving kids in Africa. My mom apologized several times and tried to walk away but the man went on and on. My dad received a chicken sandwich instead of the fish sandwich that he ordered and my sandwich also came with cheese on it that I had to scrape off, but after what my mother had just endured, we did not dare ask for our orders to be fixed. Even the family at the table next to us let us know how shocked and appalled they were at how we were treated. I would not recommend this place to anyone and would give it a negative star review if I could. No one deserves to be treated that way, especially a...
Read moreOkay. Let's start with The Good: The Fries are perfect. Warm, Crisp and Deliciously fried. I would go just for the fries. I got a Bacon Cheeseburger and the Bacon was crispy (not the soggy microwave kind) and the beef itself was well cooked and juicy. The produce was also actually perfect. The lettuce was real leafy lettuce (not iceberg) and the tomato was fresh and perfectly sized.
The Bad: The condiments ruined it for me... I'm not a condiment snob but it did not mesh well with the otherwise delicious burger. They put way too much on, so much I ended up tossing the bottom bun where most of it was collected. I normally like generic ketchup but this one tasted kinda off... Too sweet maybe? I don't know. I just didn't like it. So skip the condiments. (Even the fry sauce was not very good).
The Meh Category: These are things that weren't deal breakers and weren't considered in my rating but could have been better. I got an Oreo Shake.... Actually it ended up just being Soft Serve Ice Cream in a cup. There was one Oreo broken in fourths on top and then I found like half of one at the bottom. The ice cream was actually really good - like Macey's soft serve machines.... So it has potential but not worth the $4 I paid. Also the building and menu could use a slight upgrade. Nothing fancy, just make it not look like a gas station...
So even though my experience has been tainted by terrible condiments I couldn't justify giving it a 3 star review because there were many good factors (the fries mostly). So it's basically a 3.5
Fries: A+ Bacon Burger: C- (Sauceless probably an A) Shake:...
Read moreFull disclosure, I ordered in the mid afternoon void between lunch & dinner service and I post this to clarify my rating because I would definitely give this place another chance. Eating here during a 'normal' meal time would likely add a star all on it's own as restaurants just produce better products more efficiently when properly staffed and ramped up for service. This place appeared clean, certainly as much as any other similar place and has real potential with a great menu, good selection of beverages/treats and what looks like a captive local population & easy interstate access all things considered...plus the more burgers you cook 'into' that grill the better they'll be...but considering what I've already mentioned I did just order a simple cheeseburger with fries which should have been easy enough for whoever was on duty but I got a slightly stale poorly toasted bun surrounding some great tasting quality beef that was under seasoned...inadequate toppings, skimpy portions of tomato and lettuce and they forgot my onions altogether, but the tomatoes, pickles & everything was fresh & tasty. The fries came out greasier than they should have because they just didn't get properly treated when they came out of the fryer before being packed up. I just know the guy who made my order can and most likely does execute better normally and nobody's perfect. Next time I'd eat in during a normal mealtime, and get a milkshake...
