When Gondolas Snack Bar opened last summer I was over the moon to have a snack bar 10 minutes down the road from me. The smash burgers and fries were amazing. My partner and I ate there easily 3-4 times a week. It was a very long winter waiting for them to reopen. Sadly it was a very long wait for nothing but disappointment. Opening Weekend: My partner and I went, the wait was finally over! My partner ordered a double smash with bacon and grilled onions. I ordered a regular smash burger. When we got our food we realized they had put the onions on mine and the bacon on his. So we went to the window to correct the issue and they removed the onions from mine (cheese and all) and put them on his and completely remade mine, instead of just remaking both of them. His was cold by the time my redo was completed. We left extremely disappointed but agreed that it was opening weekend and that mistakes happen. We gave it a week and tried again 2nd visit: My food came fine but my partner ordered a smash burger with a side of mac bites and when we got to the car we realized they had given him fries instead, so once again our order was messed up. So I went to the window and told them the issue, they removed the fries from my partners box, added more salt to them and put them in the next customers box (I couldn't believe they did that!) They made the Mac bites but it was clearly rushed because the order was wrong and they were still cold in the center. We were extremely frustrated at this point. My partner and I agreed, we would try one more time and if it was another bad experience we would be done eating there. We decided to go the following weekend for one more try and while they actually got our order correct this time, they had replaced the hand cut snack bar fries with FROZEN crinkle cut French fries. That was the final straw for us. 80% of the reason to go to a snack bar is for the French Fries (at least in my opinion). If I want frozen French fries I'll buy a bag at the grocery store for 3 bucks. We will not pay a snack bar to serve us frozen fries when they should be fresh hand cut fries, it's completely ridiculous. Last summer we were spending $40-60 bucks several times a week to eat here but that will not be the case this summer. They have without a doubt lost us as customers and it's very disappointing. We have since been giving our business back to Cajun's snack bar, where they actually have snack bar fries, not this frozen crinkle cut nonsense. Save your money and go to...
ย ย ย Read moreWhen I walked up to Gondola's Snack Bar, I was in a rush and honestly, a little cranky. It had been a long day, and all I wanted was a quick scoop of ice cream to turn my mood around. Little did I know, I was about to get an experience that was so much more than a simple cone. Avianna was working behind the counter, and from the moment I approached, her energy was infectious. She greeted me with the biggest, most genuine smile I've ever seen, and it was the kind of warmth that instantly melts away a bad mood. I told her I was in a hurry and just wanted a simple scoop of chocolate, but she took the time to ask if I'd ever tried any of their new specials. I said no, and she immediately offered me a sample, describing it with a passion that made it sound like a gourmet delicacy. She didn't rush me; she simply let me take my time to decide. When I chose the special, she didn't just scoop it. She turned it into an art form. She was meticulous, making sure the scoop was perfectly rounded and nestled just right in the cone. I watched as she added a sprinkle of crushed oreos and a tiny drizzle of caramel. It was clear she was taking pride in her work, treating every customer's order as if it were the most important one of the day.
While she was preparing my ice cream, we chatted a bit. She asked about my day and actually listened to my rushed, abbreviated response. She shared a funny story about a little kid who had a huge ice cream cone melt all over his face, and it was so charming and relatable that it made me laugh out loud. By the time she handed me my cone, my bad mood was completely gone. I wasn't just holding a dessert; I was holding a small piece of happiness. The ice cream itself was incredibleโrich, creamy, and everything she said it would be. But what made it truly exceptional was Avianna. She didn't just serve me ice cream; she served me an experience, a moment of genuine human connection that I desperately needed. She went above and beyond in every possible way, and she did it all with a smile that could brighten even the grayest day. I'll definitely be back to Gondola's, and I'll be sure to look for Avianna. She is truly a gem, and her dedication to her customers and her craft is...
ย ย ย Read moreThe service was quick and friendly as promised and the menu seems appropriate for a small snack bar: hamburgers (smashburgers), hot dogs, fries, creamees. There were plenty of parking and outside tables when we went. The grounds were clean and the building looks great. The quality of the food items was good. My only complaint is the price.
Here's the price info. so you are forewarned before you take your family of 5 for quick burgers, fries and drinks. Although smashburgers are a novelty in this area, the price of the smallest burger is $8.77 which seems a bit high for two thin patties, American cheese, sauce and 3 pickles. The size/amount is comparable to McDonalds where a Bacon & Cheese Quarter Pounder made with Angus beef is $4.49 - not that I am pushing or even like McDonalds, I'm just using it for a price comparison.
My double smash burger was a bit dry and more sauce would have been appreciated. Offering extra sauce in a self-serve bottle would have been welcomed. Offering it for an extra charge on an $8.77 burger just seems stingy.
To add sautรฉed onions, extra sauce and another slice of cheese would have brought the price up to $11.52. The fries and drinks package seemed a good value at $4.00. Now we have a $15.52 burger lunch - over $30 for two without dessert or without upgrading the drinks to floats or milk shakes. Fresh tomato, sliced onion, lettuce or a gluten free bun are not an option.
When Vermont is full of eat-in restaurants that serve a great burger made with locally grown, pasture raised beef, these two thin, take-out smashed patties just donโt...
