First things first - Location is outstanding. One could spend good time with family to have food in a relaxing atmosphere. Food - We have ordered Chitti Punugulu, Veg Manchurian and Paneer Tikka Masala Entree along with Garlic Naan.
Entree and Naan were good. We have second thoughts if Naan is a frozen one (packaged) which is reheated. But the taste was good.
Punugulu weren't tasty. They seemed oily and tasted oily as well (chef might have added extra baking soda than necessary). Something went wrong with salt as well.
Neither punugulu nor chutneys (Peanut and tomato chutney) offered along with it have any salt. Chutneys are spicy and aren't tasty. Same with Manchurian as well.
It's not a pleasant experience when none of the street style food is good at the food truck when you go there just for those.
Initially we have been there for Rumali Roti and Pot Veg Dum Biryani. Learnt from the owner that they are not being served and needed to be removed from Menu. It's kind of cheating if you keep continue with same Menu cards offering them. Please remove them asap.
I've spoken about Punugulu, Chutneys and Manchurian with the owner. He listened carefully but have nothing to offer in response. It was "Oh" kind of response and then he had one punugulu in front of me and said it tastes right for him.
Spoke with the chef who prepared Manchurian. He said generally people wouldn't complain about the taste and kind of made me doubt my taste buds.
It was not just us, but other people on adjacent benches dining there were complaining to each other on no salt...
ย ย ย Read moreI happened upon this food truck as a result of the BBQ food truck, Dampf Good BBQ (on the same property: Phillips Farm), being closed upon my arrival. The worker at the Dampf Good BBQ truck said he just ate some of the food from Desi Dhaba and it was pretty good. I am a major fan of Indian food so I decided to try itโฆ.it did not, nor did the staff, disappoint!๐
I had the butter chicken, white rice, garlic naan and a mango masali (spelling??) to drink. The butter chicken was very flavor (the chicken very juicy) and not too spicy. The garlic naan was tender and super flavorful; perfect for soaking up the butter chicken sauce. The rice was tender and perfectly cooked! It was my first time having the mango masali drink: it contains yogurt, mango, half-n-half, and a chefโs secret ingredient ๐ (as per the attendant, Vishal).
The menu is scanned via QR code. The items don't have much description. So, Vishal, who was taking my order generously helped me make a selection by asking pertinent questions about spice tolerance and portion sizes/meal type desired. For example, did I want appetizers or an entree.
They assumed my meal was to-go, which was fine by me, and packaged it as suchโฆbut when Vishal saw that I was sitting down at the provided picnic tables in front of the food truck, he promptly brought me a plate (without me even requesting it ๐). The service was gracious and generous.โค๏ธ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ๐ซถ๐ฝ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ. Definitely marked in my guides...
ย ย ย Read moreTried Desi Dhaba in Cary, NC with high hopes, but unfortunately the food fell short in many areas. Here's a breakdown of my experience:
What I ordered:
Baby Corn 65
Punugulu
Chicken Noodles
Bajji Muntha Masala
Chicken Cooker Palav
Mutton Cooker Palav
Poori with Potato Curry
Curry Leaf Chicken
The Good: โ๏ธ Punugulu was crispy and well made โ๏ธ Bajji Muntha Masala had good flavor โ๏ธ Service was friendly and quick โ๏ธ Convenient location and easy parking
The Not-so-Good: โ Baby Corn 65 was extremely oily and just average in flavor โ Chicken Noodles โ chicken pieces lacked flavor and tasted off โ Chicken & Mutton Cooker Palav were the biggest letdowns:
No flavor, very low on salt
Served in regular to-go containers, not in the cooker as advertised
Rice was overcooked and mushy, forming unappetizing lumps
Chicken quantity was very low despite a large portion of rice
Same with the mutton โ slightly better than chicken but still bland
โ Poori and Curry were average, with the curry lacking salt โ Curry Leaf Chicken was oily and lacked the promised masala flavor
Overall: Desi Dhaba is a one-time visit for me. While the service was good, the food quality and taste just didnโt meet expectations โ especially compared to other Indian food trucks in the area. The Cooker Palavs, which seem to be their highlight dishes, were the most...
