This is a tough review to write. We were staying in Moultonborough for the weekend and wanted to try a local eatery. We asked our friend if the Village Kitchen was good and he said, oh yes VK is very good!! Off we went for dinner, and noticed that the parking lot was full. Good sign, but wondered how long the wait would be. They said about 40 minutes, but within 5 they told us that they had a table ready for us!!! We sat at this really oddly shaped table that the waitress said they called NH table. Our waitress was sweet albeit a little nervous....but she got our order right and the food came out hot and quickly. While we were waiting for the food to come out (which was only about 10 minutes) we read that they served breakfast. Food was delicious and the blueberry crumble pie and chocolate cream were both delicious!!! Now is the hard part...the next morning we went back for breakfast at about 8 am. We got right in and were asked by a young girl how many people were in our party. We said 5 and asked for us to wait while we checked on a table. All of a sudden this woman who looked like she was either, tired, miserable or hated her job asked if we were "good"....my friend said we will be when we eat!!! She looked at us all like we were dirt and said, well do you need a table? I said, no thanks the girl is getting the NH table for us!! The look that she gave me was the most disgusted look I've ever gotten!!! The women (we found out was named Rhonda) walked away from us and went up to the girl and made some snarky comment to her. The girl then came asked if everyone in our party was there, so that we could be seated. Since we were all there we were taken to the table. A party of 4 were seated behind us, with only 2 of the 4 being at the table for about 20 minutes before the other 2 showed up!!!! Ok for their whole party to not all be there, but it wouldn't be for us???? Hmmmmm. Food was good!!! Hot, seasoned well and speedy. Then it came time to pay. I brought our tab up to the register, and good ole Rhonda came up and used the register, looked at me dead in the eyes, and just walked away. Unfortunately having a person like that in a restaurant that has decent food, makes the ratings go down. I guess we will not be going back unless we happen to catch a day when Rhonda...
Read moreI was a big fan of this place in the past, good food and good prices, the service has needed some work, but not too bad.
Tonight, though, we had a party of five which waited 25 minutes to be seated. That would be no issue, provided there was communication or at least an explanation of the wait. Especially if it's expected to be a long wait time, you would figure they would be courteous and explain the situation so the customer can decide whether or not they wish to wait. Instead, we had three different people give us different answers, try to seat us, and all kind of act confused/unsure of what to do. Later we would find out that their layout would only mostly permit a party of four, excluding a few tables, so that was dragging out the wait time. That would have been nice to know sooner, but they went ahead and told us we could wait at our table that they made for us.
We were seated, and the busser layed the silverware out. She also made a comment about how she "knew it can be difficult to wait."
Whatever, that's fine. We just needed to have a server to take our drink orders and we would be set. We waited another 20 minutes, did not receive menus, nor a chance to put in a drink order.
Now, in fairness, the restaurant was busy. However, when 4 servers are on and a server and a busser are chatting in the corner for a few minutes, it is kind of ridiculous to not at least get those two small things (menus and a drink order taken) accomplished within a 20 minute span.
Not sure if it was intentional or not, but needless to say, I wasted 40 minutes waiting due to poor communication.
I won't be coming back, as either they don't want my business, or cannot handle ample business in a...
Read moreIn the past I really liked it here. They had really good coffee and really good service. So if you go here be prepared to wait they are seemingly always busy so you think there would be something to it. We waited inline awhile (something we expected) we got to the front of the line and then the waitress offered the people behind us a seat. My wife got a little upset and "asked what about us since we were first". The waitress then stated "we seat bigger party's first because we don't have that many big tables thank you" (as the people behind us apologized for her?) The coffee wasn't that good this visit there was no offers of sause for the breakfast we ordered one of those things you expect with stake and eggs. There wasn't any one filling coffee. The waitress never checked on us and couldn't be seen until it was time for the check. The home fry's were under cooked. There's always a line at this place and I know it's always busy for them. But people legit line up and wait to eat here and it's normally a knock out. The home made bread cooked there is always good. I feel like this place tends to regulars more then vacationing families. They always seem friendly with people that are obviously day to day guests. They chat it up and have a good time. So if you live close it's...
