As somebody who loves a nice diner breakfast this place is very disappointing. Iâve been here with my wife twice and the place was completely empty both times. The atmosphere is actually quite nice despite there being nobody there. The way the place looks inside is quite nice. That being said neither of my experiences were that greatâŠ
The first time was nothing really that notable. I had ordered a regular egg breakfast with bacon and home fries. My wife ordered the same but with no meat because she is allergic to pork. She seemed to enjoy the home fries the most. The food was okay for me nothing really stood out except the fact I was able to order a Jack and Coke with my breakfast which I thought was too funny to pass up.
The second time however was very notable. I decided to order the country fried steak with gravy and home fries with a biscuit. My wife ending up ordering the same thing as the first time but getting the order in with the waitress was frustrating. First she was told verbatim âwe donât do thatâ by the waitress. I guess the waitress didnât think a meal with no meat was on the menu? Not sure what the confusion was but my wife pointed to where it was on the menu. The waitress seemed to think this wasnât good enough to order or something and recommended the one with bacon. My wife explained she was allergic to pork so what she ordered was just fine. The waitress then tried to sell her on another dish with tomatoes. My wife really just wanted what she ordered and it was beginning to become annoying to communicate with the waitress. We had talked about getting French toast earlier but didnât really want to get the full order so we asked if they could do a single piece (which actually wasnât on the menu) which to the waitress responded âwe donât do thatâ again. This I didnât really have a problem with because it truly wasnât on the menu but as I glanced at it again I noticed they had a single pancake option on the menu. I thought it was a little strange that they wouldnât make an exception when the waitress was so adamant about getting her to have some kind of addition to her meatless meal and of course the fact they had the single pancake option (which we ended up ordering instead). Anyway, we got the food ordered and it came out. The amount of home fries on both of our plates was comical to say the least. If we combined both our home fries it probably would have equated to 3/4 of a single potato not to mention the serving size per plate was not anywhere near the same. The potatoes were also undercooked and had a slightly hard texture inside. My eggs were overcooked (ordered scrambled so kind of expected to be fair). My country fried steak tasted like when something absorbs the flavors of inside a refrigerator not to mention the breading was bland and nearly flavorless. The gravy was decent but rather cold. The biscuit was obviously microwaved and soggy. The rest of my wifeâs food besides the potatoes seemed to be okay but everything remained lack luster and left you thinking that this food really could be better. We arenât the type of people to complain in person as I donât think anyone should have to. You should just be given a good experience the first time!
In conclusion we decided to just never go back and cut our losses. We have found a new diner nearby called Sunrise Grill which blows this place out of the water. Shame. It looks like maybe the place used to be good as it has a bunch of high star reviews on here but thereâs no way thatâs accurate as the...
Read moreThis place is a joke. The owners are way out of touch with reality. I was charged $16 for a small pancake with gravy on it and acoffee to drink. I ask about the cost after they gave me the bill and was told by the waitress that they know it's high and they tried to talk to the manager about it and was told to charge the customer. With Sunset Grill just down the road, serving great food in a better atmosphere at a cheaper price. Sorrento country kitchen will not be around long. Don't waste your time at this run down, over prices restaurant. $2.99 coffee $4.99 (1) S pancake $7.00 gravy. I showed them on their menu where I could have ordered what they call the hulk biscuit and gravy for $12!! How is my meal that much more expensive. No understanding. Just a pay and leave attitude. This place use to be a pretty good breakfast spot. To many new owners with a, I just want to make money attitude, rather then serving great food at a good price and let the community build your business for you.
I did ask for a smaller pancake because the HUGE ones are sometimes undercooked. The gravy was asked to be placed onto on the pancake. Just like biscuit and gravy would be severed. I understand nothing is free. I can order a biscuit and a side of gravy which is more then just ordering a biscuit and gravy. Your kinda off track with the people. No understanding. No willingness to listen. They just want to be paid and you leave. You could have adjusted my meal to the extra lager ( hulk biscuit and gravy) which is a much larger meal then a pancake with gravy and charged me that. But it had to be al la cart so it was very very expensive. Thank you...
Read moreSo, I will say we definitely like to go and find new places to eat. Having lived in this area for the last 4 years, we had always heard about the diner but never stopped in till this morning. With not much expectation because of the things we had heard or read about, we were completely surprised. The very first thing we noticed when we walked in was how bright it was inside, which made the space look bigger which is great so as not to feel crowded. Our server was great, and very attentive. We ordered the country fried steak with biscuit and grits and the farmerâs omelette with grits and sourdough toast. When we got our food we were pleasantly surprised with the portions we received. My husband who grew up in Apopka I have always joked doesnât know what good food taste like, but said that the country fried steak this morning was better than any chain restaurant and even mine!!! As for the omelet, I will say they did not skimp on any of the ingredients! Every bite was full of flavor, and you could taste the freshness! I have never had an omelet from anywhere that has had as fresh ingredients! From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out feeling like we had to be rolled out we were very impressed, we will definitely be coming back an making this our Sunday morning breakfast place!!! Only recommendations- need better marketing to let people know about this great little gem in town and would be great to see what you can or could do by adding a corn beef hash omelet to the menu as I bet it would be just as full and filling as everything...
