Tilleys Tavern — Restaurant in Mount Olive

RACIST RESTAURANT !!!!!!

Ok so, my friends I passed through this spot since we were on our way to Missouri for a concert and really needed to eat since we had been driving for about 3 hrs. When we got there we were minorities since all the people at the bar were white motorcyclists. We stared at the whole way to our table. The atmosphere was incredibly awkward as if we did not belong there. Waitress was super kind so shout out to her!

We ordered food and it took almost an hour to get our food and the place was EMPTY on the dining side. A white family sat about 15 mins after us and ordered afterwards and still got served before us. Waitress kept on apologizing for the delay and expressed to us

"drinks are on us, I am so so sorry I cannot even believe this is happening, we have a problem in the kitchen with the food and the people making it . I am very sorry and this is not your guys fault at all I just hate when people act this way towards other human beings" I cannot count the times this waitress apologized to us and was so embarrassed

The whole time we waited for our food we got stared at from the outside of the window by people that were in the bar. The food got there very very late and we were in a hurry. We are 10000000% sure that this was because of our race. I am Mexican yet I don't have much of an appearance but my friends do. We felt so discriminated and were hesitant to even eat the food since they did not want to serve us. We know this was a race issue.

We ate the food since we had not eaten all morning and the food was pretty great which is why I have it 5 starts. The place in it's self is the issue here if you are a minority.

Atmosphere: As an old fashion appeal in the historic sense. Very clean and well kept. Patio area outside is very large, modern sports bar feel. Staff was very attentive and local neighborhood feel. Food: WOW... we got a sampler platter and it can feed 4 people. Not be an app for 4, straight up feed them. Poppers were amazing. Onion Rings were top notch. Mozz sticks... were mozz sticks. Toasted raviloi were pretty good. I like the larger textured breading but well executed otherwise. First time I ever say a horseshoe outside of Springfield, IL. Go the philly cheesesteak shoe and wifey got steak tips. Only one negative, season the beef better. Tasted like an older person diner with no salt. Simple fix. Salt shaker on the table. Driving home to NW Indiana up I-55 we decided to try Tilleys Tavern. BEST. FOOD. DECISION. EVER! Everything, the service, the price, AND THE FOOD, were absolutely incredible! My only complaint is that we live 4.5 hrs away. The portabella mushroom sticks were some of the most delicious things we've ever eaten. Could've made a meal out of those alone, but glad we didn't! Had the ghost pepper wings that were fantastic. And the portabella burger that I put a little of the ghost sauce from the wings on. It was amazing!
