El Dorado Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Mount Vernon

Tucked away in the parking lot between a gas station and an Arby's, it's easy to miss El Dorado. I was on my way to Arby's when I saw it, and had to stop for real food, as opposed to fast food. As it turns out, El Dorado has both, in the very best way.

I was quickly seated for a late dinner and had a (relatively tame) margarita in hand in no time at all. My friendly server took my order and in what seemed like just a few seconds, my food arrived. I got the Burrito Real, which was tasty and delicious. The rice was moist, not dried out, the beans were, well, they were just beans but they were done right. The burrito was great, with grilled chicken and very good white cheese sauce. The complimentary chips and salsa were fresh and good, though the salsa was a little watery and could use more of a punch. I'm sure it's because they have to be careful of people who can't handle the heat, but for me it was pretty tasteless. Other than that, it was a delicious meal, served quickly with a smile. And the tab? I was surprised at how low it was, even including the drink.

I didn't visit the restroom, so I can't comment on that.

From what I did see though - Good place, good food, good prices. Definitely...

I’ve been here a few times with my family, food always seemed to be okay. We were always willing to come back until the last time. We ordered our food and they give us a quarter of a bowl of salsa. So we asked if we could get a full one and we did. I ordered a margarita and there was a hair sticking out of the glass, they made it right. My daughter went to the bathroom, she came back saying there was black mold all over the ceiling and it smelt awful in there. When they brought me the check it was $68 and change, after taxes $75 and change. I gave my card to the waitress to pay and the manager brought me back my receipt to sign and it was $10 more than the bill that they brought me. They brought me the bill for a certain amount and charged me for a different amount and then proceeded to argue with me about it. The food was okay, the place is absolutely filthy. I don’t know how the health department hasn’t shut them down. Overall, really...

Ordered a Taco salad and Guacamole Salad to go. The menu price was $8.75 and $2.50. My total was $14.67. Seemed a bit high so i questioned the total. It seems it was ringing up at a different price than the menu. Once they were aware of the issue, the prices were adjusted, my debit card credited and then charged correctly.

Now to the quality...

The Guacamole Salad was highly lacking on the namesake ingredient, Guacamole... What was there was tasty, but it was mostly a very small shredded lettuce salad. I found about 5 small pieces of diced tomatoes and a little shredded cheese.

There were a small handful of chips with salsa. The salsa tasted like a can of unsalted Rotel tomatoes.
