I never like leaving reviews like this, but I believe in being honest.
I had wanted to try this place out since it changed ownership. It's been many years since I've eaten here. And I always like trying new places.
Upon entering, I was greeted by a woman sitting behind the counter with a frumpy look on her face, who said, "Sit on that side!" Even though "that side" was very crowded, I found one clean table and sat down.
I seemed to have had both waitresses working that day waiting on me. I liked that they helped each other out, and both were very friendly. I ordered the 2 piece fish with cottage cheese and macaroni and cheese. About 15 minutes later, the waitress came back and said they were out of fish. So I just ordered a bacon cheeseburger with everything, and french fries.
I was very disappointed upon receiving my meal. I guess for $8.99 I was expecting a fresh, plump, and juicy hamburger, which just wasn't the case. It was a frozen patty cooked in hell. The only saving grace was the bacon! The lettuce and tomatoes looked very fresh too. The fries were nothing special and I may have gotten 15 of them at the most.
I could've stayed home and made this meal myself for about $3. I still wonder if the fish would have been good? I guess I'll never know as I don't have any plans for returning to...
Read moreI needed a job and a friend referred me to 12th Street Cafe. I got a job as a cook without the manager showing me the kitchen. On my first day. I was disgusted with how dirty the kitchen was and at the end of the day how they clean the place. I hold a food handlers card and know how it is suppose to be cleaned. They use Ajax to clean the grills and fryers. they never cleaned the bottles that have Mayo and stuff like that in it. They just keep putting new over the old. most of the equipment didn't work right and it was so hot in the kitchen that it made me really thirsty and I was told I had to ask management for a glass of water and they could and did tell me no a time or two. I witnessed another cook drop a spatula on the floor and pick it up and without washing it she continued to cook with it. I am surprised there isn't more people sick after eating there. I could only stand 6 days at this place and tell everybody I can so they don't get sick. PLEASE DON'T EAT AT 12TH STREET CAFE! YOU ARE IN DANGER OF GETTING SICK. And it is true that Management get to eat and drink when and what ever they want even when their employees...
Read moreWe ordered a taco salad and steak with a cheesecake dessert. It's an understatement to call it severely disappointing. I called to ask for my steak medium rare and what I received was only what I could describe as the insole of a shoe cut paper thin as though it was purchased wholesale from a street vendor meat truck. The taco salad was not as advertised (no shell) and even had ingredients not listed on their menu incorporated. Good thing we don't have food allergies. The coleslaw was just raw vegetable with a scoop of some unidentifiable mayonnaise along with about a half a shaker of pepper. I prayed for a saving grace with the cheesecake and was greeted with the texture of biting into a glue stick and a concerning flavor that only hopes to be a cheesecake one day.
The only edible items were the rolls and baked potato. After working food service, I presume the rolls are prepackaged and it's kind of hard to mess up a baked potato. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. How you're still open for business is mind boggling and I'm definitely taking my business elsewhere. Good luck in your...
