If I could leave more stars I would! This place was paradise, this is my first time to Nantucket and it was even better than I expected. Walking up to Sumner House was like walking into the sweetest setting of comfort and hospitality. The staff greeted us with such a warm welcome., we felt like we were at the most inviting home. Salvadore showed us to our cottage which was beyond charming, so quaint and lovely! We then went down to the bar area where we walked the beach for a bit then came back to the bar and had an amazing Lobster Roll and the greatest tomato and burratta salad I have ever had. The tomato was so incredible that I asked the manager where he orders them from and he told me there is a farm here called Bartlett Farms and he gets them from there everyday. I had to go myself and pick up some tomatoes which I brought home on the plane with me that is how delicious they were. We also had dinner in their restaurant and when I say the best crab cake I have ever had I mean it, all crab, no filler… we ordered zucchini blossoms and they were beautiful, also had the tuna tataki and the main course was a spectacular bone in veal chop that was cooked to perfection!!! I can’t say enough about how magical this place is. This was the perfect ending to summer and I will cherish it forever.

Great food and atmosphere, but expect to wait for your food for a while. My husband and I started off with drinks at the bistro first - down by the water. Loved the setup and the staff and bartender were very nice and attentive. We then had dinner at the restaurant; we got the burrata with tomatoes (would've been extra nice if it came with crostini), tuna tartare, lamb chops and lobster fra diavolo. Everything was delicious! We also got a chocolate cake for dessert, but it was just chocolate cake. Nothing crazy. Host and wait staff were all very nice and we felt well taken care of. We would definitely come back for dinner again, especially when we want to beat the crowds downtown!

Great family place with a bar scene for adults. Outdoor seating was nice, quiet with a lovely view of the property and garden. Indoor seemed like more of a party scene with louder music but there seems to be a good balance between both. The food was all very good. Strip steak cooked to a perfect medium rare. Linguine was a little on the salty side but still pretty good. Clam chowder and arugula & watermelon salad was a great starter. Service was great. One of the better meals we’ve had on the island.

My husband surprised me this weekend by bringing me to the Summer House for my birthday dinner and to spend the night in one of their cottages. We were both very excited since we had both stayed and dined there in years past and always had a wonderful experience. Things have changed..... When we walked in the hostess tried to seat us at a table that was so tightly squeezed next to the tables on either side of it that there would be no way for 2 adults to fit comfortably. When we told her we would prefer another table and inquired about a specific one she told us we couldnt sit there because it was reserved and the people who were going to sit there were at the bar having drink. When we left at the end of the night, the table was still empty. The hostess then led us to a banquette which was covered in white material that was covered in multiple stains that had occurred over time. They were so bad that the restaurant should have had it recovered long before. We then sat down and my husband noticed the graveyard of dead bug carcasses all around me on the banquette, the shelf behind my head and even on the table. All it would have taken was someone to wipe it down and there would not have been bugs but nobody seemed to care. It took the waiter an exceptionally long time to take our drink order and even longer to bring it to us afterwards. The food was ok, not great but ok which does not seem reasonable considering the steep prices. All along there was a horrible drunk piano player banging on the piano and attempting to sing. It was so loud you had to yell to be heard across the table. In the past, the piano player was more for background music and later at night might break into sing-along type songs, but this guy was full on all night. To make it worse, occasionally customers would come up and try to sing with him which added insult to injury. We could not get out of there fast enough. On the way out we stopped and told the hostesses of our horrible experience and they really didn't seem to care at all. We then went back to one of the Summer House cottage which we paid a small fortune to stay in. It was very musty and the shower handle fell off while my husband was taking a shower. The very worst part is that the drunk loud piano player banged on those keys until almost one a.m. The walls on the cottage are very thin and you could hear every drunk reveler leaving as well as drunk piano guy carryine on. Again, my husband went inside to see when this would end. We don't think that it is reasonable to have it so loud so late. Again, the management seemed like they could care less. The Summer House used to be a classy restaurant with amazing food and a highlight to our trips to Nantucket. We will make certain to not set foot there again and warn others...

The Summer House Restaurant is a Nantucket institution, and for good reason. The restaurant has been serving up delicious seafood and American cuisine for over 50 years, and it continues to be one of the most popular restaurants on the island.

The restaurant is located in the heart of Sconset, a charming village known for its cobblestone streets and brightly colored cottages. The Summer House itself is a converted Victorian home, and it has been beautifully restored to its former glory. The dining room is elegant but cozy, with a fireplace and a baby grand piano. There is also outdoor seating on the porch, which is a great place to enjoy the views of the ocean.

The menu at The Summer House features fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The seafood dishes are particularly good, and I highly recommend the lobster roll, the clam chowder, and the grilled swordfish. The restaurant also has a wide selection of other options, including steaks, pasta dishes, and vegetarian options.

The service at The Summer House is excellent. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable, and they are always happy to make recommendations. The restaurant also has a full bar, which offers a wide selection of wines, beers, and cocktails.

Overall, The Summer House Restaurant is a great place to enjoy a special meal on Nantucket. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is charming. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island.

Here are some specific things that I liked about The Summer House Restaurant:

The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was charming and romantic. The views of the ocean were amazing. I would definitely recommend The Summer House Restaurant to anyone visiting Nantucket. It is a special place that is sure to leave a...

My girlfriend and I went here for what was supposed to be a nice date night. First, I made a reservation for outside, when I got there my table was taken which was not a big deal. I was on time but things happen. The hostess sat us in a couch with a drink while we waited for a table. When we finally got our table we noticed we did not get bread which was not a big deal until we noticed that every other table was being served bread.

When the waiter told us the specials, he went so fast that we couldn’t even hear what was being said. We overheard him tell the specials to the table behind us and he went slower and offered different accommodations that we did not get informed on.

We ordered a bottle of wine and while enjoying it, we noticed that other tables were being topped off regularly while we would finish a glass and have to wait for the glasses to be filled.

Finally, every one time our waiter would come to check on us, he would check on the other tables 2-3 times and barely give us the time or day. Bottom line, we felt that our $400 bill did not reflect the type of service that we should have gotten. The food was amazing but the service and hospitality was horrendous and this is not the first time I’ve had a bad experience here.

I would not recommend this place to any friends or family. If you’re looking for a restaurant of this caliber I’d cross this one...
