It's a rare day to stumble upon such an amazing hidden treasure in what some would consider a seemingly ordinary, dinghy gas station.
My first visit to the Biscuit Kitchen was on a cold snowy New Years day. I first arrived at the world renowned Loveless Cafe next door. After waiting 3 hours in line for brunch behind an older couple from Albuquerque that were visiting their son, who just moved to the city to play upright bass for Fancy Hagood, I discovered that Loveless had another "restaurant" right next door! I decided to roll the dice and get out of line and try my luck at the Biscuit "Kitchen" and, oh boy, did I make the right decision!
Did I have to sacrifice my dignity to eat brunch from a gas station?... yes. But did I get the same food I would have ordered at Loveless Cafe cheaper and quicker?.... well, no. But! I did get one of the most scrumptious biscuit sandwiches from a gas station I've ever had, with the added benefit of no longer listening to how successful Seth and his bass were.
On a mostly unrelated note, I have friends who moved within walking distance of the Biscuit Kitchen and I swear they did it for the ease of access to the Smoked Pulled Pork Biscuit...
TL;DR : get almost the same delicious Loveless experience without talking to weird people from New Mexico, but at the cost of knowing you're just buying breakfast from a...
Read moreI was very excited to try The Loveless Cafe but didn't have the time to wait 2 hours for a seat for one, as I had a flight back home to catch. The hostess told me the food next door at the gas station was the same food as inside the restaurant. Boy, do I really hope she was wrong about that. For $22.86 (including tip), I ordered the Famous Loveless Cafe Country Ham platter with 2 "scrambled eggs", home fried potatoes, gravy and a side of mac n cheese ($15.89). The potatoes were the only descent thing here. The biscuits were cold and hard as a rock, the eggs, exactly like the ones you'd find at a motel continental breakfast (likely made from powered eggs), the ham hard and dry, as if it had been microwaved and thrown into my styrofoam container, and the mac n cheese was extremely bland and had no flavor. Leaving Nashville on this note was disappointing, as I went out of my way to try this place before going home. I'm afraid the Loveless Cafe is all hype. There are much better places to spend your money in exchange for a much tastier meal. This place is quite literally,...
Read moreThe biscuit kitchen is overpriced and overrated. it would have cost me less to go to Hardee's and I'd have had a better meal. You get two biscuits the size of dinner rolls and there is not a lot of difference between the texture of the two. Additionally they consider gravy to be one of the meats of the meal and they don't even give you enough for both of their small biscuits. One hardy biscuit equals two of theirs. Although the gravy did have a decent flavor it was pasty.
Their breakfast platter when you order it with gravy essentially becomes biscuit and gravy meal. When I said this to the individual taking my order he said we don't have biscuits and gravy. I don't know whether he's trying to brand or what but it is biscuit and gravy. needless to say he wasn't happy with me and I wasn't happy with him. Not to mention for $6 I...
