There are at least two of these oriental garden restaurants and this one in nephi Utah was the original one and it is ran down and it seems that they don't put much care into it any longer since the one was placed in Salem Utah and it is newer nicer cleaner better service and a better experience overall. The food is traditional Americanized Chinese and you will get generally the same Chinese cuisine that you would be accustomed to at most Chinese restaurants in the United States. However they do have an offering of an egg roll with pork in it and lettuce wraps not all together unlike PF Chang's however they do not offer any types of dipping sauce other than the traditional sauces such as duck sauce, sweet and sour sauce or hot mustard. It is my understanding that they either currently or previously had a third location however I do not know where that location is or would have been. One of the second generation of the owner family whose name is Raymond is a very affable fellow easy to communicate with being second generation Chinese America and he speaks perfect English, is is the person that I visited with on many occasions. In fact, he dated my daughter for short period, that aside, he is the one that had told me about the third location. Unfortunately, I cannot recall where he said it was, but I bet if you can find it, then it will be more like the Salem location. I have not seen or heard from Raymond in at least 3 years maybe four years and I had hoped to see him on this occasion visiting the original family restaurant; however, I was not in luck. I feel bad about being brutally honest about this visit to the original Oriental Garden restaurant in Nephi, Utah, but isn't that why we make these reviews? I certainly am not trying to steer you away from the family's restaurant completely. I am just being very honest about this experience and my disappointment. We ordered three dishes and one was undercooked while the other two were very overcooked. they were badly understaffed believe it was the matriarch that served us and shortly after we had arrived and ordered a party of 15 arrived and that just exacerbated the situation for us and the owners of the restaurant for it is only about a 35 person...
Read moreI'll give this spot props for having some of the best Egg Fu Yung I've had anywhere. The Sesame Chicken was also good. The Wor Wonton Soup was OK but the Lo Mein was clearly made with spaghetti noodles & that hit wrong for us. All that being said, they won us over with the Egg Fu Yung and I'd go back just for that. It's always a crap-shoot ordering Asian food in tiny towns out in the sticks. The old joke is that large cities have individual restaurants for each different Asian country's food but in the sticks, they have them all at one place and that place might be known colloquially as the "Diarrhea Dragon". We rolled the dice on this one and won. It certainly looked iffy but the service was fast and friendly and the locals seemed to be enjoying it. There was also a steady stream of people rolling through to get takeout, which usually bodes well. We'll be by again sometime when we're traveling between Las...
Read moreGreat little diner in Nephi! Good food! Great Wontons! Good sweet and sour chicken. Sauce was great chicken is a little chewy but not bad at all. Everything was cooked wonderfully!
For owners: Make the front door look nicer. Get all the marks cleaned off. Tables and chairs look good! Checkout counter needs work. Looks unfinished. Clean the lights over the tables. Paint parking lines, it says you are open and people take care of the parking lot. Have more napkins at each table. Put up more simple Chinese decorations. If you can fix the lights that run across the room or take them down. Many are broken. Make cabinets for the drink cups keep the eating area clean of things like that. Just my thoughts, but overall nice place to get Chinese food, would go...
