We chose Sonney's for our Thanksgiving meal because we both love tasty barbecue. My husband doesn't eat poultry, so I'm the one who chose the 1/2 chicken platter and ribs (we had ordered brisket which was the main item we were both looking forward to, but they ran out of brisket before they could fill our order. I had called over a week in advance to make sure our order was accounted for since it was an upcoming holiday, and we were planning to drive over an hour each way to pick it up. Low & behold, they ran out of brisket nonetheless. I knew they would be closed Thanksgiving day so the day prior I called five separate times. Each call went to voice mail, but voice mail was full, so I sent our order in using their website's contact form early that Wednesday morning (they told me calling in our order the same day as pick up was fine). I received no reply. I sent it in a second time and called again. Still, nothing. Finally, mid afternoon, they answered the phone, and told me no order was received online. We spent $125 for our food. As I said, no brisket; I got my husband a large cheeseburger (they forgot to include any fries w/the order). I paid extra for two beef ribs on the side. The bones were huge. There was four bites of meat on each bone for $7.50 a piece. The pork ribs I got had a kind of strange taste to them, but I thought it was my tastebuds, maybe. But it was disconcerting. The 1/2 chicken was half cooked and smothered with a five alarm fire coating. I took one bite. I couldn't eat it. I told them nothing spicy, please. My mouth was on fire. I threw it out. The side of mashed taters were terrible. There was no gravy. The collard greens were greasy and bland. The side of beans were at least edible but I had nothng to eat with them. I paid $12 for a ceasar salad. They mixed the sopping wet dressing into the salad. It was like mush. We threw that out too. My husband tried to eat it, for me, but he couldn't do it. The bread pudding was greasy and way too sweet for two diabetic. Whatever that white stuff was they gave us to put on top of it looked disgusting. We threw all of that out too. The few bites I got off the beef ribs left an awful taste in my mouth and gave me horrible indigestion for hours afterwards. I had to apologize to my husband for picking this place for our holiday meal. We ate hot dogs and pizza from 7-11 for our Thanksgiving dinner. The one thing I was thankful for after such the unmemoriable meal, was that my husband and I were together. I nearly lost him to a stroke last year, so every day, my getting to wake up beside him,...
ย ย ย Read moreWhen is a Brisket Salad not a Brisket Salad? When the Brisket is missing. We placed a to-go order on 02/22. A photo is attached. We live around 50 miles away from Minden. Imagine my disappointment when I opened the Brisket Salad to not find any Brisket was inside. I thought maybe the Brisket was on the bottom. No.
We texted a message to Sonney's on 02/22 with no answer. We called Sonney's on 02/23 & were supposed to receive a call back from the Manager. The Manager never called back. We also purchased a Big Boy & they were out of Hamburger Buns. What kind of BBQ restaurant does not have any Hamburger Buns? They also did not have any Corn Chowder Soup which is supposed to be available everyday.
We have eaten here a few other times with no problems. The food has always been good. I am thinking there is a new Manager in place who does not know what they are doing.
The moral of this story is to always check your to-go order, especially if you do not live in the Minden area. The other moral is to maybe not eat...
ย ย ย Read moreI've not been un some time. With a tip I paid 40 for a rack of BBs. The service was ok but didn't notice anything that was going on at my table (solo diner). Like when i asked for a go box he took no notice of all i was trying to stuff in it and ad a result i had to leave my entire salad which I would have liked to take. I had nothing to drink. The garlic mashed potatoes were so dry and cold... no butter made available. I'll have to add milk and butter at home if I want to eat them. The honey butter for the too-dry-to-eat cornbread showed oxidation..obviously it had been out all day. The 3 bottles of bbq sauce were greasy, tips were clogged, and more than half empty. I had to ask for more than one napkin. All in all. It was very disappointing considering the only thing my 40 bought was the ribs and that 40 would buy me a lovely steak dinner at CVI. It will be a good long time before I venture back to Sunnys BBQ with my...
