Cuatro Amigos — Restaurant in New Berlin

Living in central Illinois the expectation for authentic Mexican cuisine is about as low as it gets. That being said, these guys far surpassed those expectations. The salsa was chunky with fresh chips, and mixing it with the"spicy" salsa that you always have to ask for around here, made it pretty fabulous. The guacamole was just smashed avocado but it was fresh too at least, and pretty tasty with that spicy mix in. The fairly standard fare on the menu had a lot of subtle variations like adding mushrooms, peppers, and/or cheese sauce (phenomenal) to entrees that you see everywhere, making me want to go back and try different things. Of the things we tried it was all really good, the house cheese sauce and tamales were amazing. I'll also be having more of the chorizo next time and I've got to give the street...

Randomly stopped in while in the area for work. We had a party of seven. It's basically your standard Mexican family restaurant. The usual selections served up the usual way. I don't mean this in a negative way at all, it was exactly what we were looking for. The place was clean, food was good, the prices were absolutely fair, and the service was solid. I had a dish with chicken, shrimp and bacon with cheese sauce. It was just right, not drowning in cheese sauce like some places do it. Stopped in for lunch on our way through New Berlin. Liked that it's not too far off the highway. The choriqueso is fantastic and I really like the chile relleno. Both the chicken and beef in the taco were pretty bland, but the tacos overall were decent. The service was fantastic. We thought our margaritas were a little on the tart side, but okay overall.
