The Back Nine Tavern at Stanley Golf Course — Restaurant in New Britain

Even though I was aware of the Back Nine Tavern, having driven past it 100's of times living close by, I'd never really thought much about the food there. To me, it was most likely another bar/pub fare type of place typical to a golf course. Then I happened to see New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart's "Best Pizza In New Britain" Facebook video yesterday (8/4/21), where she and local pizza chef Cezar Ostrowski, judged the 6 finalists. The video was really bad on their end due to a weak wi-fi connection or something, but I was able to make out the winner at the end. It had come down to Marathon, a 30+ year staple in New Britain, and Back Nine Tavern, a relatively new place of just a few years Who knew they did pizza?? I've never even seen any advertising from them. That being said, and being a huge pizza fan, my curiosity was peaked so I had to try some. I ordered their small Meat Lover pie to-go, and when I picked it up, I knew we were going in the right direction. ANY time you order a Meat Lover pizza & you pick it up & it's light? You've made a bad choice in pizza makers. The Back Nine pie had some heft to it, so I was already happy. Being close by, I was home in minutes, and the pie was still nice & hot. And while I really, REALLY, wanted to say the Mayor & Cezar got it wrong, after the first 2 bites, I could not. It. Was. Awesome!! It's a thin crust style, fired in a coal oven (the ONLY way true pizza should be cooked), with ample toppings, and the one thing that really scored a home run for me, was their sauce!!! They use a sweet sauce, that balances SO well with all the salty of the meats & cheese. I dislike salty sauces that just heap more salt taste onto an already salty product. I will be...

My family and I recently had a wedding reception for my brother and his wife. Don and his team did an amazing job! They were so accomodating from start to finish and we couldn’t be happier of how everything turned out. We were concerned about the older folks getting up the hill but Don was able to get one of his staff to drive a golf cart for them and the driver was so nice and friendly and everyone appreciated the ride. Don was there during the reception to ensure all of the vendors were set up and good to go! The wait staff and bar tenders were very friendly as well! The banquet room is beautiful with plenty of space to have 100+ guests and room for a dance floor. We have had a few other parties at the Back Nine and the food and service always exceeds expectations. Thank you again Don & the staff at the Back Nine.....

Visited the Back Nine restaurant at Stanley Golf Course on a Monday night with friends based on the hours listed on Google and their website, which indicated they are open Sun-Thurs from 11 am to 1 am and Fri-Sat from 11 am to 2 am. However, to our surprise, the kitchen closed at 8:30 pm, and the establishment closed at 10 pm. This inconsistency with their online hours is not a new occurrence. It's crucial for the management of the Back Nine to update their posted hours online to avoid misleading their guests. Had we known about the early kitchen closure and closing time, we would have chosen a different venue.

Update: Have visited again, more than a year later. Walked in with 3 others and our greeting was "The kitchen is closed". See things haven't...
