El Poblano Mexican Food — Restaurant in New Haven

First time after driving by for a cple years. Got the pollo burrito with everything. First, the flavor was outstanding, you could taste poblano peppers in the sauce, which was a unique substitution from the typical verde sauce ingredients from surrounding taquerias in New Haven county. Also, the chicken, the rice, the beans, all had their own flavor that, when mixed together with each other, married them all for a very satisfying taste. The burrito as a whole was well sized. The chix to rice and beans ratio was fair for the price. I liked the substitution of cabbage instead of lettuce, which I was worried about in the beginning, The burrito was sauced well, but not sloppy or soaking wet. The tortilla held up nicely throughout the entire burrito and didn't tear or fall apart, but it was still tender and soft enough that it was easy to eat. I highly recommend trying El Poblano if you're in the area and in the mood for some Americanized-Mexican food with authentic Mexican flavor.

The only thing I will say, which ultimately isn't THAT bad, is the price. It was $11 for the Chix burrito. Steak/shrimp and lengua(I think) was $13. So it's on the higher end when compared to similar spots in the area, but you get a larger portion size, delicious, and slightly unique burrito, served up fast. $24 for two burritos, 1 chicken , 1 steak, no veggies, loaded with rice. Not worth the price in my opinion. Price did not match menu, charged me extra for using a debit card. Not very good business practice in my opinion. Decided to try again as previous experience with newer owner was not very good, quality of food is low. Will not be returning.

Best Mexican food in the area, hands down. Owner and staff are friendly and courteous, I alway feel welcomed when I enter. Sister Campos’s cooking is THE BEST! I served with her in our church children’s Sunday school classes and she’s taught my children when I transferred to another assignment. I had no idea her food was SO GREAT! Our congregation kept talking about how amazing her food is that we finally tried it. Guys. Get some now! Even my pickiest eater (7 years old) said “This is the best taco I’ve had in my LIFE!” And so did my other children. And my HUSBAND. He eats New Haven’s best regularly but he said hands down Alecia’s Mexican food here at El Poblano is the BEST! We love her chicken quesadillas, burritos, and tacos Al Pastor.
