I stayed at Bryce Resort for a month and went to Copper Kettle 4 times, eating only twice. First time I sat outside and ordered a gluten free pizza. It took almost 30 minutes to get it and it was just not worth the wait. Weak overall flavor and the GF crust was a dry disappointment. The next time was to order take out and it was a hassle. The hostess was confused with how help me since there was some kind of member party going on. After she looked around a while she left to ask someone and came back a few minutes later saying she thinks I can order from the bar. The bar was crowded and I was seen but not acknowledged and after 5-7 minutes I left. The next time I went for lunch and asked for an outside table and was told they are not seating outside. I asked if I can sit by the window and they said yes only to ask me a few minutes later to move to the table behind me (away from the window), which I kindly did. I waited for sometime to be seen before finally leaving. The very last time I went was with a dear friend who came to visit me and after a long day we decided to stay local despite my hesitation going here again. A more mature lady was at the hostess stand this time and asked how she could help us. We asked if there was a table outside available. She asked if we had a reservation and we did not (had no clue you needed one even after my 3rd visit). She began to lecture us on the need for a reservation and then went on to explain that she certainly cannot sit us outside because of rain in the forecast. It wasn’t raining then and didn’t rain at all that evening. But we could appreciate the caution and said we understood. She went on and gave us what felt like a lecture again on the weather and table umbrellas and then proceeded to lecture us some more about the need for a reservation. We nodded and kindly smiled several times showing our appreciation and compassion for her rules as she continued talking to us like children. It was bizarre, and then I simply said that I understood and asked if that means that there is no table. She fussed a bit more and then said she thinks she can accommodate us and to follow her (the place was maybe 30% full). We sat down and my friend shared that she was very uncomfortable and felt judged by this woman, I agreed. My friend is Middle Eastern. I am not suggesting anything here but only describing our experience. This woman was not warm or friendly at all even though we were. So we decided to stay and ordered a salad, fries and the Tuna dinner. The fish came dry and overdone on the outside and somehow raw red on the inside and tough all the way through, a bit like leather. The salad was forgettable and the fries were over cooked, poorly seasoned and unusually small ( I had to use my fork to eat and dip them). The girl that waited on us was kind and attentive and we certainly appreciated that. My observation is that this is the only place in town…they know it and act like it. If you aren’t a member or a familiar face, the service is poor and just not worth the time. Do yourself a favor and take a 30 minute drive to Woodstock Cafe where the atmosphere is warm and inviting, the good folk that work there are kind and the food is fresh and really good quality with an interesting selection and creative specials. Bryce Resort is a charming little town and the Copper Kettle is not, and...
Read moreThe host was extremely rude. This was our experience...We made a reservation here one night when we were guests of Bryce Resort. We’re not from this area and our chalet was up in the mountains, not far from the restaurant, but it started to snow earlier in the day, pretty heavily. We decided to keep the reservation and I felt fine driving in the snow, but it did take a little extra time coming down the mountain (being cautious for ice and sliding) and then a couple extra minutes walking cautiously through the parking lot with my 65 year old mother and 87 year old grandmother. When we got to the front of the restaurant, there was a sign that said closed. Strange, we were able to book a resy online…so I decided to walk into the lobby, and sure enough the doors to the restaurant were indeed open and people were eating inside. I approached the hostess and said something like, are you guys open? And she said flatly, well the kitchens just closed (our resy was for 4:30 and we walked in around 4:43, again, snow and elderly grandmother). I said ok, it did let me book a reservation a couple days ago online for 4:30. She replies, flatly again, well you’re late. And starts to walk away. Very, very rude. I retorted, well it is snowing and icing outside. She said, I’ll go to the back and talk to the manager to see if we can seat you, and left. We waited. She came back, grabbed some menus, and without saying anything to us, started to walk towards a table. We followed and sat down. The whole time she doesn’t say a word and leaves to go back to prepping utensils. I learned her name was Wyn or Win, something to that effect. If you’re the face of a restaurant, the first person that guests see when they come through the door, this is absolutely unacceptable. Rude, flat, unkempt, all of this was and forever will be my impression of this restaurant because of that hostess. There was some damage control, our waitress was very nice and uplifting (unfortunately I didn’t catch her name, but she was young, had an accent, dark hair and glasses). We didn’t take a long time there (we weren’t even the last to leave), but the whole time she was attentive and accommodating. The food was ok. My Cesar with grilled shrimp was fine, the salad wasn’t anything to awe over. My mom really enjoyed her carbonara and my grandma liked her steak au jous fine. But the initial experience left a bad taste in my mouth, literally, and I probably...
Read moreMy family was staying at a cabin near Bryce, and without many other options, we elected to have dinner here. The staff was friendly and sat us near the window for a great view of the slopes. We all had the regular burger. It was a smash style burger, well cooked and seasoned. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp and the buns were put on the grill and had a nice char to them. Oddly, it doesn't come with any sauce or condiments, but when asked they provided an assortment of toppings and mayo. While we did order the regular burger, I feel there could have been more creativity in the menu with more options, a special sauce version, sauteed onions and mushrooms, etc. There was also no drinks menu, so we just had soda, Pepsi products unfortunately. It was also a bit expensive for what it is, but with few options close by, that's the price you pay.
While I'm not letting this affect my review, this is where things got a little interesting. When we got the bill I noticed that the burgers were $15 each when they should have been $14 each. I pulled up the menu on my phone and sure enough, we had been over charged. The server was very apologetic and said there may have been either a typo in the menu or the computer and it would be brought up promptly with the managers. She couldn't take money off the burgers in the computer, but she could take off 2 of our sodas, which was fair. The staff handled this well and were very understanding, though I wonder how many people had been over charged.
Overall, I wouldn't say it's a destination or I would go out of my way to eat here again, but if I was staying at the resort I would come back. I feel there is some wasted potential here, and with a few tweaks this could be...
