Solid food, charming atmosphere, but terrible service (not because of the waiter). This place is beautiful and i love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It is small and inviting. We were sat near the outside seating area and one of the issues i had were the number of flies in the area. Annoying, but not a huge deal. Drinks come is a very small plastic cup. Maybe 10oz and filled with ice. Other members of my party got the prickly pear lemonade which was pretty good and on the tart side. It was slushy style drink. Green chili stew was delicious. I enjoyed that a lot. My combo plate was a little underwhelming flavorwise. The carne needed more seasoning or salt. it was tender, looked great, but a little more heat and flavor would have knocked it out of the park. Tamale and enchilada were ok. Posole on the side was not flavorful nor what i expected (used to the stew like style). Beans were ok. Pricing is good.you get plenty of food with your plate. Here is the biggest Achilles heel though, service is entirely too slow. i watched while these servers ran around like chickens with their heads cut off. They have too many tables while some guy in the back was taking notes( assuming the manager) instead of helping out. Our waiter did a great job, but we were there for close to 2 hours while we waited for various things. And the check? Has to be all together or they charge extra. Annoying, but just a heads up. Ill giveit another shot if im in the area but they really need more staff

Superlative Northern New Mexico dining experience. If you're in the area, this place is a real treat. Obviously, the drive to Chimayo is gorgeous, the restaurant is an old, sprawling adobe ranch house - nicely decorated, but not fancy at all. The same can be said for the entire experience - the food is no frills, but super awesome New Mexican style cuisine. My carnivorous dining partner opted for the fajitas and these had to be some of the best I've ever tasted - the meat was well-marinated, flavorful, but not stringy and tough. They actually ask you how you would like your fajitas prepared: rare, medium, etc - that's a new one for me. I wanted to taste everything, so I selected the Picante combo plate. I loved it all, especially the carne adovada (I've had it a few times recently, but THIS is how it's supposed to taste) - tender pork chunks in a delicious dark sauce and the Posolé (such heavy dose of Mexican oregano) were delicious. We could not ignore the chocolate piñon mousse for dessert - fabulous light flavor accented by toasted pinon nuts. The service was prompt and friendly, the ambiance was informal with plenty of large groups and the prices are really reasonable. Loved it

Ridiculous. Serious, just ridiculous. Please keep in mind this is NOT the first time I've been to RDC. I've been coming here sine the 1970s. We showed up on time for our rez. When I checked in I was told it would be a half hour. A half hour with a rez? Apparently they messed that up and sat us pretty quickly After that the entire experience went to hell. A four top (with out a rez) was seated just when we were, and they came in at the same time we did. We sat for over 25 minutes. No one asked us if we'd like a drink, a glass of water, nothing. I honestly could not tell you who our wait person was because, even though we were seated quite literally in the center of the dining area, wait staff simply ignored us. The manager was bumbling around, but always just managed to disappear just as I was going to get up to talk to him. The 4 top had ordered, got drinks and were enjoying apps. We weren't. Finally, we got water, ordered a drink and dinner thinking that would be the last time we would see a wait person. Much later my dinner came and it was.....COLD. Honestly, I couldn't wait to leave. My money is worth more than what I was getting. Finally (after asking) we got a bill. Think the waitperson might offer to comp a meal or a drink for the horrid service? Think again. There are something like 54,000,000 New Mexican restaurants in northern New Mexico, I think I'll explore. Yes, Chimayo has the cachet and it is beautiful. Unfortunately I won't...

Went this evening for a dinner date with my girlfriend around 6:30. Was told there was a 20 minute wait. No problem. Been coming here for years, I understand they're busy. Waited and are seated out on the lower patio. It was nice evening, nice atmosphere. Waited about 15 minutes for someone to come take our drink order while 2 waiters just keep passing us by. The people seated after us get their food order done fast by a male waiter. We're still waiting for someone to take our drink order. The table in front of us is getting they're check settled. Still no one. Finally the first waiter comes over after passing us and talking to a waitress in the next room. Begrudgingly, he comes to take our order. By this time we're thirsty and hungry. After her take our order, we decide we didn't want to stay here after being treated that way. Many of my family have worked here over the years and they would never treat anyone, regardless of where they were from like this. Seems the staff are more worried about satisfying they're out of town customers, than worrying about the locals that helped build it and made it famous, my grandmother Rodriguez included. I hope flo is enjoying the James beard fame, while the locals can't even be...
