So I just left this place. I'm writing this review outside of the establishment. I walked out before placing an order. I refuse to patronize businesses that don't respect or acknowledge their customers, new and old. Good customer service is rare nowadays, and I'm no longer spending my money where their employees don't appreciate their customers. Anyway, back to my experience. I went in today to order from here for the first time. A young lady and I waited for someone to come from the back for a few minutes. This is ok because places are short-staffed. I patiently waited as she took care of the young lady picking up food delivery orders. She asked if I was picking up? I told her I needed to place an order. She handed me a menu and walked away to help the young lady. It took a few minutes which was no biggie. Again I understand places are short staffed. I looked at the menu and put it on the table once I decided what I wanted. Now I'm still waiting, looking at the waitress, waiting to get her attention to let her know I'm ready to place my order. I look at her, and she looks at me as if I'm waiting to place an order. In doing so, another lady who's a delivery driver walks in. she helps her after looking at me. Okay, I am still waiting patiently. Mind you; I'm still waiting to place an order. Afterward, a man walks in and goes to the bar where the waitress is standing directly across from me. She then looks at me again, making eye contact. the menu is still on the table, as previously mentioned. I'm just waiting like ok, this is it. She asks the guy how I may help him. I politely pick my bag up and proceed to walk out. It is only then that she says, “oh ya, ready to order.” I politely decline and walk out. I was looking forward to ordering from here, but I'll keep passing it up. I've been to other locations and never had that experience. This is sad because I had high hopes for this location. The ladies on the lake are friendly and welcoming. I'm leaving this location to go to the Lakefront location. What a...
Read moreDeanie's Restaurant & Bar in New Orleans East is often confused with the other Deanie's Restaurant group that currently has locations in Bucktown, The French Quarter and The Garden District but there is zero connection between these restaurants. So we have to emphasize again that this Deanie's Restaurant & Bar has no relation to the other Deanie’s Seafood Restaurants (other than a shared name) which the confusion seems so strong that many have just started calling this joint "Deanie's on Hayne" to differentiate it from the better known and larger restaurant group. So "Deanie's on Hayne" or Deanie's Restaurant & Bar traces its history back to the mid-1960s in the Warehouse District of New Orleans. Deanie’s on Hayne opened in its current location the 1970s, when the fishing camps on Lake Pontchartrain along Hayne to Little Woods were beginning to disappear.
The bad news is that Deanie's on Hayne has very limited serving hours being open 11AM to 4PM Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 11AM until 8PM so most folks are mainly going to get lunch here and maybe an early dinner on a Friday. The good news is that Deanie's on Hayne has rotating daily specials and they have a HUGE selection of different items everyday. You really get an amazing variety of so many things which are prepared in many different ways. They have a large bar here if you are a solo diner and then they also have plenty of table seating options as well. They really pack a HUGE amount of great stuff into what looks like a relatively modest building from the outside. You get good food, great service and a nice environment along with most other things you would want in a dining experience all wrapped up into a nice package here. Overall this place is a definite place to put on your list for a future visit and once you experience it you will likely return for more.
