JT Smoke BBQ — Restaurant in New Philadelphia

I just happened on this place when I was looking for some place to eat as I passed through New Philadelphia. I googled barbecue knowing there was a place in town but found this new place so I stopped. Turned out to be a food truck and it was a rather hot day. There really wasn't any place to sit and eat in the shade. Had a nice conversation with the owner who came from Kansas city. I just wanted to try a couple of things so I got pulled pork and sausage with a Mac side. While he was fixing that he insisted I try a couple of his ribs and he also threw in a side of baked beans. There was so much food two could have eaten and had some left. Everything was very good. Typical KC sauce with a little bite to it and thinner than the heavy sauce most are used to. hard review to write but you don't get better without constructive criticism. the pros? great coleslaw. big portions. the cons? everything else waaaaaaaaaaaay too much harsh hickory smoke. almost an acrid taste to the meat. Drenching things in substandard bbq sauce does not make it bbq. Let your customer decide whether they want sugar slathered all over their food. That meat should stand on its own. Sauce should compliment not overwhelm. Ribs undercooked by a good hour/hour and a half, no brisket and that sausage was nothing but smoke and the recipe needs rethought. owner was super nice and gracious, prices were great too. 5 star customer service, seriously so excellent and the food was amazing. I wasn't sure if 4 ribs would be enough for me, I was starving, but they were huge with almost no fat so it was plenty! Sauce was good but more important than that, you can really tell how well seasoned the meat is under the sauce. Lastly, I'm not a dessert person but got a banana pudding for free for being a first timer and I ate every last bit of it. It was light, fluffy, real bananas super fresh. I'd give it 10 stars if I could, especially since it's so hard to find quality food I can afford these days. The portions are super generous! Let's support this local business with all the love...
