Jim & Nena's Pizzeria — Restaurant in New Salem

I stopped for lunch and got the #1 lunch special. (2 slices and a drink) I was surprised at the size of the slices as they were a really good size and loaded with cheese.

I wasn't impressed with the overall flavor of the pizza though. While the food was hot the slices were not real crispy. The sauce was a little sweet but the dough was bland and tough. It tasted like it wasn't proofed enough to allow the yeast to activate and give it volume and flavor. Also it lacked salt in the sauce which would ha e helped. I tried to add salt to my slices but the shaker on the table was empty.

While the staff was friendly and attentive I was a little turn off with the cook / manager sitting I the diningroom getting up and down to cook and eat his food. While he did wash his hands every time I was just take back a little on it.

as a first time customer to this restaurant me and my other half we're very pleased with the food... I enjoyed the old time feel of the restaurant... Is it the Ritz Carlton no but sometimes simple is just better small menu and right to the point.. The pizza we had was fantastic I personally enjoyed it the sauce is sweet and won't give you heartburn and it all pairs together it's also very thin and crispy which is a plus like new York style Pizza... Subs were good no complaints me personally I'm a big sub roll guy and I enjoyed the rolls they're nice and crispy almost like a baguette... I also don't like crinkle fries but there's I did.... I learned with everything consistency is key my first experience at this establishment was great so I hope I can get the same experience when I am able to stop back in....ty ron and Mary...

We moved away almost 6 years ago and have been trying to find or emulate the strombolis they serve here but have only come marginally close. The Italian stromboli was as delicious as I remember and hits the spot every time. We love this Jim and Nena's location and talk about often to our friends and family from out of the area. When we lived here, we would bring our guests to this location and were never disappointed. Great food every time! The dining room has been updated and it looks great! It used to have yellow paint and miamatched furniture but now everything matches and has greatly improved the feel/atmosphere. We will definitely be back the next time we are...
