I was so disappointed with this place. We had booked based on our experience of the outdoor bar which had been great. We went last night (Friday) Drinks took 20 minutes to arrive and were okay but not as good as they had been at the bar outside. The waiting staff looked rushed off their feet and stressed but were really polite and pleasant. The menu looked good but my food experience was really poor. I ordered one of the specials which was charged at a premium price. I asked if it could be gluten free, however they had no gluten free tacos and I was offered the option of my grouper being served as it was, or being wrapped in a lettuce leaf or served in a toasted gluten free bun. My understanding was that I opted for a gluten free bun and there was an additional charge of 50c to replace the soft tacos. I was okay with this as I appreciate the gluten free bread costs more. I discovered later that the 50c was to pay for the lettuce!!!! In other places I have some great gluten free work rounds with the food served in a way that looks appetising. However this was not one of those places I was served something really messy and unpleasant looking on a 50c lettuce leaf. The fish was covered in what looked like a shop bought sauce and on searching I discovered there was what looked like a teaspoon of pico de Gallo underneath the fish and what may or may not have been a sliver of avocado. It looked a mess and was cold when it arrived and not good value. I was so disappointed as this was supposed to be a romantic holiday meal and I felt that I could not reasonably accept something this substandard. I asked about the bun and was told that the 50c charge was for the lettuce leaf and not the bun and that this was a further three dollars. I was pretty put out by this as there was no compensation for the fries or tacos that I did not receive as I was gluten free and was being basically served fish with a side of squash and a squirt of sauce. I asked for a manager and was told they would give me a gluten free bun free of charge which I accepted in the hope that my experience might be improved. I had not anticipated that my meal was to be taken away for ten minutes whilst my partner sat patiently letting his get cold as he ate it slowly waiting for mine to return. The fish from my meal was literally scraped off the lettuce and put in a toasted bun and served on a new plate and the plate with my lettuce returned in case I wanted to add this to the bun rather than a new meal being served. The lettuce by this point was just a mess of scraped off fish and sauce and soggy. By this time I wanted to cry as the whole meal had been ruined and was struggling. Meals are more than just calories on a plate, they are about an experience. My partner and I were looking to have a lovely holiday meal something that you make memories from and instead we ate separately and I ended up with a meal that was cold and unpleasant and looked like something a gull had dropped on it's way by. How much effort did it need to take to serve something that looked appetising and edible? I paid the full price and wanted something nice like any other customers and the chance to eat with my partner and relax, even before the bun debacle the meal was not acceptable and looked awful. I have been to many places that have managed to serve something gluten free and make it look like a treat and not a punishment, that includes in New Smyrna. The sad thing is I don't even feel like I can come back to the bar that we first loved now based on this experience. For the price this should have been a better experience. It really spoiled a relaxing night we both needed so much. I have given a low rating on service not because the staff were bad, they were lovely, but the overall service and response to a dietary requirement was awful. You pretty much ruined...
Read moreI'm kind of struggling where to begin on this review to be honest....we had a pretty dreadful experience here on Valentines evening. We had no problem booking a table for 3 at 7pm that morning, which probably should have raised red flags as all the other restaurants we tried in the area were fully booked. Chasers is one of the only true beachfront restaurants in NSB and it looks great inside and out....lovely seaside vibe. We were told to arrive 15 minutes before our booking which we did....however after waiting nearly an hour at the bar for the text to say our table was ready (other people were also kept waiting well past their quoted times)and several drinks in (bar server was excellent btw) we decided to enquire when we were being seated as we could see clear tables now available. We were informed we had been "forgotten" and then finally taken to our table. Our waitress was obviously annoyed at being sat so late...not OUR fault....but we ordered our starters and entrees quite quickly as we had plenty of time to read the menu at the bar already. The starters arrived quickly and we were enjoying them (no issues with food) but within 5 minutes or so a table runner came out with our entrees....what the heck? We had hardly eaten any of our starters at all and felt so annoyed and rushed that we let the girl take them away as we didn't want to risk reheated entrees....she did offer to box them up though lol! Our main server appeared eventually when we had finished, she didn't do a check back during the meal and only brought table water when asked unlike every other table in the restaurant. We let her know our issues and she implied that it was normal policy to give 7 minutes between starters and entrees. In most restaurants I have eaten it is usual to observe what stage of dining your guest are at and base it on that...its called "service" for a reason. The duty manager came, made excuses, promised to adjust the bill which came back unaltered....we then had to literally argue with the waitress who firstly removed one starter, then two after another argument which was the absolute least that should have happened....she argued they normally charge if you eat over half...missing the whole point of the whole shocking experience. The manager chased us out after we had paid to actually apologise but it's too late by then. I can see from old reviews that service issues have been ongoing here for several years with no change so this review is probably a futile exercise, but we were so irritated by our treatment it feels...
Read moreThis restaurant was racist and provided me and my friends with terrible service. I have been to this restaurant multiple times with my family for years we have had great experiences (I am a light skin Latina), so I suggested to my friends (of many ethnicities, including black) that we dine here. When me and my friends were sat, we waited over 30 minutes just to be greeted by our server and asked our drinks. We waited about another 30 minutes for our drinks and before we even received them a white family at a table who was sat after us had already received their drinks and their food, we hadn’t even ordered our food. We then get to order and we are patiently waiting for at least an appetizer to come out, another 30 minutes passes and nothing, after more time passes ONLY ONE of the three appetizers we got (a manager gave us 2 for free for the wait) comes out. At this point it was 10pm, we have recieved our drinks and one appetizer when a family sat after us has recieved their meals and are pretty much done already. After more time passes the manager comes out to tell us that two of the meals we have ordered are not available, this is at least an hour if not more after we order, and he says that none of our food including the other appetizers have even been started. At this point we were done, we got up and left and told him to cancel the food. How is it that a family sat after us gets great quick service, gets to enjoy their meals, and our food hasn’t even been started (the restaurant was not busy at all, coming from a former server.) This was ridiculous, you seriously need to do better. Coming from a loyal customer, I will never dine here again, and if you are anything but white, I suggest you go elsewhere for some actual...
