How sad is it there's only one Nemo's location left and it's not even in Chicago? I used to go to the one on Ashland until it closed rather suddenly a few years ago. Now even the original one in Rogers Park closed because a bureaucrat at city Hall was refusing to renew their food service license until they paid some old fine left over from the Ashland location (seemingly they closed it to resolve whatever the issue was, well the city logged it as a fine anyway and then held their RP location hostage for it). So the owner closed that one too, and now Nemo's is only in this one last spot in the North Shore suburbs.
Anyway, you get quality sandwiches at Nemo's. I like how ordering a whole sandwich actually gets you two individually wrapped halves. It's easier to eat one and take the other home for later.
I like that they have two different liverwurst sandwiches here. They also have a special sub called a Balboa that was created by some kids in a home ec class at New Trier. It's a really good sub! Apart from that I like the seafarer, which is a tuna sub, and the Northern Italian, which is various Italian deli meats and has olives on it.
They have soups here including some frozen in a case you can take home.
The service at this location was fast and friendly.
I don't find myself in this area very often but when I do, I'll stop in for a sub! Maybe I'll have to visit the Ferrari dealer up the...
Read moreI had high hopes for the Italian beef sandwich. It started with learning that a half Italian beef sandwich costs $5. Then because of high beef prices they charge a dollar extra. So to get a whole Italian beef sandwich costs $12. Add a small 1oz bag of chips and a large drink and the total is $16.
As for the sandwich the beef didn't taste that good. It was dry and without much flavor. As if they made tons of it one day and freeze it to use in the future. I have had way better sandwiches in the Chicagoland area b
At least you get free refills...
Read moreI've been going to Capt'n Nemo's ever since I was a little kid starting with the original in Rogers Park, north side of Chicago. Great sandwich place, love the soup. They were a sub shop before sub shops. I remember when they first introduced soup, The captain's wife would make it at home back then. As a neighborhood kid in grade school we would ride our bicycles to Captain Nemo's for free tastes. Rest in peace Captain you were the nicest person to me, the kids in the hood, and everyone else that stoped in. Thanks for...
