Dan's Friday night fish fry is among the best in MN. The batter is light, crispy and doesn't take anything away from the taste of the fish. It is definitely a mouth burner...you know it's too hot to eat and you should give it a minute to cool - but you can't/won't. You gotta get your Dan's fish fry. The house made tartar sauce is a good accompaniment. Normally, I prefer malt vinegar with my fish fry; however, Dan's is light with out any heavy mayonnaise or sour cream taste. Again, light and flavorful to enhance the taste of the fish. Gotta get Dan's fish fry.
I had fish fry on Friday, July 13. I went back Sunday the 15th for the colossal bloody Mary and taco trio special. The bloody was good and made with pepper vodka it came with a slice of bacon, which I haven't had served with a bloody Mary before. I am not a connoisseur of bloody Mary's, but I am of vodka and I know what I like. I had two. Definitely worth a try if you are in the mood for a bloody Mary. The taco trio special was shrimp with mango habanero. Delicious. I would have had another trio - I would have asked for more habanero (that is just me -spicy😉). Plenty of shrimp in small tortilla with chopped fresh mango and light fresh crema. My husband had the breakfast burger and onion rings. He asked me to help with his onion rings because he never gets that many. Beer batter type with good onion flavor - tasted homemade not from a bag. He did not ask for help with his burger - that was off limits. Quite lunch...too busy enjoying. Mirranda was a great server - attentive, friendly and funny.
We haven't been to Dan's in a few years. We were regular Friday fish fry people @10 years ago before the recession. Dan's was incredible-the BEST place that you didn't want to share because you didn't want to wait for a table. As any business had to adapt and change to make it through the recession, the fish fry changed. It had too. Dan's is still standing. Fish fry, while different from past memory...still ranks in the top of the best places for Friday night fish fry - NOT JUST during Lent.
I have matured. I share more now. I am also more content to wait for a table with popcorn and a good cocktail. Go to Dan's Bar and Grill - you will be so glad...
Read moreThe worst experience ever! We drove here from the twin cities normally go to Kings place, but decided to give this place a try …big mistake. King’s place will still always rule! I ordered a Patty melt when it came out, it was the absolute tiniest burger. Inside half of the sandwich was all bread. The meat itself was so overcooked and dry. I couldn’t even eat it. There literally was three chunks of onion. Cheese didn’t even exist. I asked to add bacon and there was literally one strip of bacon that they broke in half for the whole entire sandwich and charged two dollars extra for it. I complained about the 1/2 that was basically all bread, they took it back and came right back out and all they did was took 2 little chunks from another burger and threw it on there. I was Never asked if I would like to order something else or is there something they can do to correct it …absolutely nothing. We literally had our food for less than five minutes and the server asked Can I bring you your bill so obviously they didn’t want us here.. My friend wanted more beer I wanted to try the house made ice cream . We kept getting dirty Looks from the staff as they kept walking past us. I left my food didn’t eat it. We left and drove down the road to...
Read moreWent on a busy Friday night and had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend making a reservation through their website, it's quick and easy and we were seated right away once we arrived. The staff was excellent, everyone was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had about the menu. We started out with an order of cheese curds and an order of their Redneck Nachos--a heaping platter of tortilla chips covered with a sweet BBQ sauce (reminded me a bit of a mixture between BBQ sauce and French/Western salad dressing), a zesty and nicely peppered coleslaw, creamy queso blanco, and pulled pork. Both were delicious and the nachos could easily be a meal on their own. I tried the Couch Potato burger, my wife had the Jalapeño Popper stuffed burger sans bun, my son went with the California Cheeseburger with bacon, and my daughter enjoyed the Mac & Cheese from the kid's menu. My wife upgraded her side to broccolini and my son and I upgraded to the hand-cut fries. Everything I ate was excellent and everyone else at our table really enjoyed their meals. The burgers were juicy and the toppings worked well with the meat. We'll surely be making the trip back to this small town gem in the very near future;...
