So after what seemed like forever on a slow day in the woods my son an I decided we were hungry for some good Mexican food. Well we just happened to have good service where we were and we found Anita’s. Let s give it a try he said. So we finally made it to the car and we were really dreaming of some awesome food as we were really hungry by now. We drove into New Waverly and it is a small place with some big food. I can’t speak for everyone but the food did more than impress. Go figure my son had the cheese enchilada dinner, I think sometimes he is a enchilada. They were yummy and blistering hot, made with American cheese so they were not as greasy as most others. I had the mixed fajitas with bacon and veggies. There was enough food for 2 people but I somehow found a way to eat it all. Don’t expect the same fajitas that you would get at some big commercial establishment, these are more traditional and down right killer.. Beans were beans and rice was rice, neither were phenomenal but were better than a lot of places. The red sauce and green sauce are not very spicy, but they are som kinda tasty. 3 serving of each to be exact. The pickled jalapeño slices are homemade and were so addicting that I ate two Bowles of them with my fajitas. Once again they are not spicy so everyone can enjoy them. If you are passing thru or close to the area I would suggest you stop in and give them a try, you won’t regret it. Oh I forgot to mention one of the other important aspects of a great food establishment..... Hands down some of the best customer service we...

27 years in texas and eating at almost every place from Austin to San Antonio to Houston and learning to outcook my hispanic husband's family recipes.... We have NEVER been so pleased with every single morsel of food.
The ingredients were flavorful, the charred meat grilled to perfection. Memories of eating at your Abuelita's kitchen table and your Tio's bbq grill flood your mind. Each morsel was seasoned to perfection, simmered until perfect tenderness. Seemingly from recipes passed down and all served with Love.
We had: Chunky Guacamole, tres Enchiladas, Carne Guisada plate, chips and red and green salsa. plus 2 tacos al carbon. One plate had refried beans, the other charro.
The atmosphere was clean, authentic, and the staff was friendly.
We were in heaven. We tipped the cooks. Even the belches on the way home...
Read moreWe were sorely disappointed that Anita's did not live up to previous glowing reviews. I've eaten at many mom and pop establishments, as a matter of fact we go out of our way to find them. This was one of low points in that search.
The service wasn't awful but it wasn't very good. Slow on refills, tortillas delivered 5 minutes after fajitas. Child's meal served 10 minutes after everyone else's. Other servers did ask after our needs a couple of times.
Food. Long wait. Fajitas were not served very hot. Menu descriptions misleading. None of it tasted very fresh. Much of it tasted slightly of stale oil. The enchilada gravy looked homemade, but just didn't really taste good. Those of us who had crispy tacos got soggy tacos.
It was a Monday night and the first day of school. The place filled up with locals. I'm not sure what they see in the place. Hopefully if you decide to try it you will have a...
