Eh. What can I say. I havent been here in a while and came back on a whim at night. I ordered a turkey burger deluxe and my husbandhgot a cheeseburger. Firstly the waitress made us feel like we were a bother because we weren't spending suffficient amounts of money. No one should be made to feel bad for not ordering drinks and wanting water. Husband's burger was fine, cooked well. I don't know what they served me but it felt like it was sawdust or wool fibers made into a patty, certainly not turkey. I've had turkey burgers at all the Mike's places around the island, and I don't know where they order that atrocity but they should be shot. Shouldn't even be called a food product. Honey mustard sauce was really good, so were the fries. But what got me at the end was the checkout. Instead of charging the card and giving you the receipt to sign with tip, she asks if you want to put the tip on the card. I say yeah, and she asks how much, with the waitress right there. Why they would put customers on the spot like that I'll never understand. But because of that I didn't have sufficient time to think and ended up under tipping. Which i guess I am ok with because of how the waitress made us feel. Anyway I...
Read moreThere is always something good to bring home when you go to an Italian bakery. At Alfonso's Pastry Shoppe I wanted a box of cookies. I didn't recognize what half the cookies were and the kind lady explained to me the names and descriptions so quickly I could not understand her. Time to brush up on my Italian and Staten Island beat! In any case, I got a few pieces of Brutti ma Buoni (the chocolate hazelnut cookies meringue) and the classic Pignoli. The Brutti ma Buoni was hard as a rock but had a nice bite. I always get fooled by this one as I always hope they'd crumble to a soft dough but nope, they are tough nutty meringues. The Pignoli was fresh and so delicious! I could eat a whole boxful! Sadly, they are $27/pound.
In terms of pastry, the cakes and treats are sold as a regular size and a mini version. I got the mini Napoleon and Chocolate cream puff. Talk about good stuff! I'd say to just get the regular size. Mini is too small and only good for a tasting or a party box.
I'll be sure to make a return visit to Alfonso's Pastry Shoppe. Their cakes look yummy and the bakery is not to hectic. There is no line to wait in despite the steady stream...
Read moreBeen going here for years ! Loved it here. After the experience I had today I will not be going to this restaurant ever again. I ordered on Grubhub enough food for breakfast and food for later. I also figured I’d get something for my boyfriend. So when you order on grub hub it says substitute fries for sweet potato fries 1.99 dollars more. So I paid that and also I have always known to add avocado to my panini I need 3.99 for the avocado so I added a note like I always do that bagel with cream cheese is what covers the cost for the avocado. The guy who called me wanted me to pay twice for my sweet potato fries and couldn’t grasp why I put bagel with cream cheese. Says a panini doesn’t come with cream cheese. I then ask to speak with someone else he told me no! Canceled my entire order. As you can see in my photos the proof and how in intelligent the workers are and wouldn’t let me speak with someone else who might better understand how Grubhub order and how to read...
