We stopped here on the way to grandma's...a quick pit stop to fill the belly and strech the legs We found the food to be quite good. A get together after church or work kinda place. A place where elder sit and chat amongst hot coffee and eggs in the morning. Ithe food came out fast and my 5 kids all ate quite well. My daughter had the chubby burger, 2 patties, 2 pieces of cheese and onion rings, 2 sons had philly and fries, another son had grilled shrimp and baked potato. I had a giant fried fish sandwich. For apps we had cheese steaks and tenders..a round of drinks and the total was 60. The youngest boy nibbled off our plate. They had a salad bar and buffet available. However I am hesitant to say this because I so fell in love with the quaintness of this place..the fried chicken and other offerings were very dry looking and the salad 'bar' was your typical iceberg and canned fixings and dressings.. the dessert on the bar seemed to be homemade and we would have loved to try it but it too look dry On their defense perhaps because it was weekday and around 2ish when we arrived Ok! So the whole place had History! I learned from our darling server Claudia that it was once a filling station, barber, restaurant and it opened in 1929! How awesome is that! The place is full of stuffed deer heads, bible scriptures, names scribbled on the Cypress, old fashioned bar stools, and much much more. If y'all are ever driving through cross City check this place out for southern charm service with a smile and a little bit of history

We went last night for dinner ordered steak & shrimp with baked potatoe and coleslaw, kids chicken strips and fries and cheese sticks with 3 sweet teas. The tea was very good. We were told they were out of marinara for the cheese sticks, out of baked potatoes (but then some were served to others) asked for oysters and told they didn’t have those, so asked for fried green tomatoes and told they didn’t have those either. The steak was super salty and hard to eat but cooked properly as requested. The shrimp was super rubbery and hard to chew, the Tartar sauce was pure mayo. They brought extra coleslaw, I’m assuming to make up for the lack of second side with the dinner but the slaw tasted off. When they brought the 2 meals they forgot the sticks and it took another 5 minutes to get them and the bun was covered with fresh grease which implied they forgot and had to cook them to bring them out so we all just waited. No one checked to see if things were ok or we needed anything. We drove almost 45 minutes because it used to be such a good place to eat and friendly; it’s not anymore. It’s sad, dark, unwelcoming and unstocked. Food presentation is just throw it on the plate. One person took our drink order and food order, another brought the food, then the first I had to get her attention to get a Togo box for the cheese sticks and we went to Dairy Queen down the road. I personally do not recommend cypress inn anymore, it once was a wonderful place and now it’s just not.

Some folks will look at this and say, "Now hold on a minute. How can everything have a 5 star rating, but the overall score still be 4 stars?" Let me tell you a (probably not very) quick story about a worst-case scenario turned into a game saving homerun win by a server who wasn't even supposed to be ours.

My brother and I were heading South to attend a Celebration of Life for our uncle who had recently passed away. On our way down, we got caught up laughing and cutting up and missed our exit off of I-10. In so doing we caused an almost 2 hour set back to our travel plans. We ended up having to stop and eat a lot farther up US-19 than we'd planned, which turned out to be a double-edged sword.

We arrived a little after 8 pm (they closed at 9, I believe) and thought that we would have plenty of time to eat. We looked at the buffet but decided to order from the menu. I ordered the ribeye and fries while my brother ordered the fried clam strips platter. Our server brought us our drinks and then disappeared. I saw her a few times at other tables or behind the bar, but she never came back to us. In fact, this is where the MVP of the Cypress Inn Restaurant stepped up to the plate.

We'd been sitting there for about 45 minutes, and she stopped and asked what we'd ordered. We told her and mentioned that our original server never came back for refills or anything. She assured us that she'd find out what happened and be right back with refills. She came back and told us that our order would be out shortly. The ticket had gotten lost before reaching the kitchen, but that it was almost ready. Sure enough, she brought it out and 5old us to take our time eating (as it was now right at 9pm). She also told us that due to the error with the ticket, we wouldn't be charged for our entire meal. I told her that wasn't necessary, but she wouldn't have it.

Now let me tell y'all this: it wasn't the fact that it was free, but that was one of the most flavorful, tender steaks I'd had in quite some time. I asked my brother how his clam strips were and he said that they were cooked perfectly. The fries were great, too.

While this could have been a bad experience, it turned out great. We enjoyed talking to the server who took care of us and want everyone to know that this place offers fantastic...
