High Plains Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Newell

This was a fun and qwerky little diner we stopped at for dinner. There is a standard dining room, but because we were coming in for a late dinner, they asked us to sit in the bar area. The bar has a number of saddle stools. There was a good variety of beer including some local craft beer. The bar was well stocked. Three of us ordered the sirloin steak. Everyone ordered medium rare. Two were perfectly cooked and one was slightly over cooked. They offered to redo it. The meat was great quality. One of us ordered the bone in wings with the bourbon BBQ glaze, which was great. I added 4 grilled shrimp to my steak which were seasoned and cooked well. The dinner salad was simple and left a little to be desired (I would pick a different side if I went back). One of us ordered macaroni, expecting a side of hot Mac n cheese with the dinner, but it was a cold macaroni salad served as a first course. Still good, but unexpected. Server could've made it right but just said we made it work. Owner was there, chose to do nothing as well to make it right. I tried to be understanding but after the whole experience, I'd rather save my money and go elsewhere. Owner/manager could have done something as well as server but chose to let the whole family have a not so good experience. I always tip and I still did but wow just wow!!!! Owner needs to smile and not be so rbf.

After owner responded to this post, I have to add that she helped bring out food and it was very obvious that I wasn't happy. The owner and server both chose not to make it better or even address that there was a problem. I prepayed before food came out. I still tipped. Had an excellent meal here this morning. Coffee was good and the waitress was very good at keeping my cup full. The meal was exactly what I hoped for and was under $20. Lots of other places in the world now you cannot even eat there for less than $20. The most significant thing that I will note about this restaurant is the fact that it is very clean, tidy, and well kept. From the dining area to the washroom it is very clear someone has taken a great deal of pride in the upkeep of this establishment. Very comforting to see this these days.
