Life’s batter with pancakes. I’m doing a $75 giveaway with @cappys_cafe ! Winner has been announced. Here’s how to enter: 1. Follow @ocfeed and @cappys_cafe - We’ll check. 2. Tag one friend here per comment that you’d go with. Each comment is an entry. Must tag someone new per each tag. 3. I’ll announce the winner on Friday! Cappy’s is THE classic place to eat breakfast, right on PCH across from the beach. Their menu has something that everyone will love, and their pancakes have a secret recipe that’s been going strong for 50+ years. The monte Cristo might be one of my favorites. It’s a ham and turkey sandwich with sourdough bread all rolled up and fried, then served with ham. Super unique and delicious. But I also love the taco salad. If you sit in the back, you also get a view of the back bay. Good luck! . . . #breakfast #foodreel #feedfeed #eater #pancakes #brunch #orangecounty #feast #dateday #explore #thingstodo

My husband couldn’t stop raving over what a deal the pancake contest was. So, when we neeIded to be by Huntington one morning -we totally needed to drag the kids for breakfast again. Parking was seamless for us coming just an hour after open, but the parking lot is pretty tight and I can only imagine how packed it could be later on in the day. Spacious dining room with a covered patio in the back for additional seats outside. Typical American Diner vibes, wooden dining sets- TVs with sports channels and a menu that goes on for ages. I had ordered the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs - ($23) - portions are huge here, food was underwhelming. Cold Brew tasted burnt and was lukewarm at best. My husband got their Huevos Ranchero, the only commendable item was the refired beans. Our friend had either eggshells or crab shells in her omelet. Both kids opted for french toast, with a side of bacon. I don’t know who thought crisping the bacon until jerky would have been a good idea for a kids menu item but the kids for once weren’t excited about their bacon. As underwhelming as the food was, our server left more of a sour note than the food. As she was taking 1 cleared plate, while asking for refills on drinks while a majority for the table was still eating. She made a point to ask if we needed any boxes as well while dropping our bill. On her next check in- not even a couple minutes after; she dropped the box on the table and again asked if we needed anything else. By now, we’re checking to make sure there wasn’t a crazy line, or if the restaurant just picked up without us noticing. Several empty tables- with no line. We felt rushed for no reason. Aside from our main server pushing us to leave, the hostess was very warm and inviting. Can’t say i’d be back.

I would say that this is my favorite diner in Newport Beach. I say diner because it is like a traditional American diner, not so much a retro diner. It’s located on beautiful 101 in North Newport Beach. Very close to the HB border. Parking is really easy, they have a free lot attached on both sides of the restaurant. Inside is also very large with two different dining areas, as well as many different type of seating options from booth, to table, to counter. The menu is also awesome, it has a lot of unique items on it and it’s the sort of place where you can get something new each time. Our server was very polite but there was a bit of a delay getting our food items out, but it was very busy when we stopped in for Saturday morning brunch. The food quality and taste here really beats out the competition. Everything that we ordered was honestly fantastic. I ordered the Seafood Benny with Wild Caught Crab Meat and switched to the thick cut sourdough toast as the bottom, which I would recommend. The crab was fresh, the hollandaise had great flavor, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I honestly loved every bit of this dish and would highly recommend ordering it. I am eager to stop in again next time I am down in the OC area.

Went to Cappys for Mother's Day brunch. Large party with a reservation. While I didn't arrive with my party my order was placed at the same time. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with well done eggs, my order came I chatted, nibbled on the hash browns which were tasty, I asked about the tortillas which werent tostadas but warmed, server said thats how they prepare them, no biggie, bit of a bummer, went to cut into the eggs and it was full on yolk, over easy even I could do but not oozy yolk turns my stomach. Told the waitress she asked if I wanted it remade said yes. I asked if tortillas could be more than warmed she said no they were busy for Mothers Day ( even though the plate went back to be remade?) Meanwhile my party is done, I'm no longer hungry, no servers available for me to say something to. We were at the back of the tent against the plastic and I was in the middle. She came back with the plate, she did offer chips instead of tortillas. However, I just asked if it could be removed. I get it being busy, and the frustration servers can feel, but her response, Demeanor, was not it. She just said it took 12 min to get your plate, you said you wanted it etc. I didnt need my meal comped, an offer of a slight even 10 % off would of been fine. A free desert even. A heartfelt apology even. None of that happened didn't sit well. As for everyone else they enjoyed their food immensely, great size portions, the bites I tried of others food was tasty for sure. If your table is paying hundreds of dollars or even 20 a little less snark and more understanding is appreciated. I worked all night driving heavy equipment before going to that brunch, I was sleepy, yet my Demeanor was still more open to any alternate suggestions or accommodations. Just saying. As a consumer one does have the right to...
