Mutt's — Restaurant in Newport Beach

This review is mainly just on the service and a suggestion for them to make an improvement. I’ve been here a couple times and enjoy the atmosphere and food. Tonight I went in and ordered a drink called “The Breeze” under the “Buzz Free” section. It comes out and I think I taste alcohol, so I ask my friend. She thinks it’s alcohol free so I keep drinking it. About half way through I feel buzzed so I stop drinking it, now fully aware it has alcohol in it. When the server comes to take my payment he just takes my card and doesn’t even show me the screen. I have to lean over and see it was $21. I say to him “so there is alcohol in this? I ordered something that was an $8 mocktail. Is there an alcoholic drink under the same name?” He says “yes, the one you had.” I show him the one I thought I was ordering under the buzz free section and let him know I can’t have alcohol and stopped drinking it because I felt buzzed. Instead of apologizing and comping the drink I couldn’t finish, he blames me and asks “you couldn’t taste the alcohol?”. He did end up charging me for the mocktail instead but I’m super disappointed in the response and it’s very concerning to have two drinks with the same name when some people cannot have alcohol. So I’m mainly writing to encourage a menu name change. At the very least, servers need to ask if people want the alcoholic or nonalcoholic version as I did not realize there were two when I ordered. Just had brunch at Mutt's in Eastbluff Newport and it was awesome, the bacon eggs Benedict was on point, eggs perfectly poached, bacon crispy, and the potatoes were super well seasoned, coffee was solid too, smooth and rich, just how I like it, the patio is great, lots of shade even when it's in the 80s, totally comfortable, chill spot, good vibe, definitely family friendly but still a place where you can enjoy a great drink and relax, I noticed they had Elysian Space Dust on tap, one of my favorites, so that sealed the deal, the burgers looked legit, juicy and stacked, gonna have to come back for one of those, oh and the cinnamon sugar fun buns were incredible, light and fluffy, like donut clouds with just the right amount of sweet, might come back just for those, all around, Mutt's is the kind of place you keep in your back pocket for a good time, great food, and a...

Fresh cuisine - the avacado toast was healthy w nice presentation. Fish, veggies & pizza very fresh. Excellent service in garden setting🌻 Abby & other hostesses have been very attentive w reservations and orders. Bartenders are very friendly and creative. Friendly customers in Eastbluff neighborhood 🦋 Waitresses and waiters along with bus people have been quite attentive! Nachos very generous portion could feed 2 or more! I recommend. MUTTS Eastbluff to younger and more mature adults. Generous seating inside and out. Relaxed & festive atmosphere 😎 Our 14 yr old puppy Bella enjoys the other canines and their water n salmon!
