The Lawn Terrace at Castle Hill Inn — Restaurant in Newport

I have called this restaurant, all together, over the last 4 weeks about 6-7 times. Trying to make a lunch reservation for 9 adults, + 1 child. I was told, at first, they weren't open for the season so to call back. When they finally opened, then I was told you can't make a reservation more than 2 weeks in advance, so I called back 2 weeks in advance. Then I was told you can't make a reservation for more than 7 people with the restaurant, it has to be done through sales department. Left a message with sales department, and played phone tag 3 times. Finally, when I hear back from sales they tell me it is a 250$ deposit and we have to spend more than 500$ on our bill for food/drink. I tell the sales person, I'm just trying to schedule a nice lunch for my family flying in for my son's graduation and I don't want an overly complicated lunch reservation. I tell her we will break up tables into 2 parties of 5 people. Sales person says she can't guarantee us sitting near each other, and I say that's fine. Then she tells me she will have the lawn at castle Hill restaurant people call me back to make reservations? Really, I have to wait for a call back to make a reservation, when I have already called this place 6-7 times? Still haven't received a call. It has been 24 hours. At this point, I have already made a reservation at Boat House on the Waterfront for 10 people on their website for the exact date and time I requested, and it only took 1 step. From the moment we arrived, The Lawn Terrace was an absolute dream. This charming inn truly embodies the magic of Newport. The location is simply unbeatable, offering breathtaking views of the water and perfectly manicured grounds that make you feel like you've stepped into a coastal paradise.

Our room was immaculate, beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches that made it feel cozy and luxurious. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and waking up to the gentle sea breeze was pure bliss.

What truly sets this place apart, however, is the staff. Every single person we interacted with was genuinely warm, friendly, and helpful. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect, offering excellent recommendations for dining and activities in town.

The dining experience was also a highlight. While the inn doesn't have its own restaurant, the staff's recommendations were incredible! They guided us to amazing local spots that served fresh, delicious food, all just a short walk away. It made exploring the town's culinary scene easy and fun.

The atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing. Whether we were enjoying a coffee on the terrace or just taking in the stunning sunset, every moment felt like a true vacation. This place is amazing!! We were touring the mansions and didn’t want stuffy food. As a recommendation, a local told us to eat on the patio. It was excellent!! We started on the lawn having a drink which was great! We didn’t have a problem getting a seat! This was in August at 6 on a Sunday. Then we were lucky and got dinner reservations for 7:45.

The patio is the perfect place to watch the sunset! You have to have dinner not only drinks. The service was phenomenal!! She was so attentive and our glasses were never empty!! The bread was so crispy and salted well. The Calabrian chili oil was so tasty!! We started with the calamari. It was perfectly salted and we loved the aioli. We wish it had more pickled peppers to cut the richness of the fried calamari. For entrees we split a “surf and turf.” We had the dry aged steak and the lobster roll. It was a solid lobster roll with that tarragon cream. The fries were also so good and well seasoned. The dry aged steak was so juicy and cooked to perfection! The scalloped potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The bitter greens were the perfect compliment in top to cut the richness and the sauce was tasty too.
