I started looking for another local place that delivered after Dominos messed up 4 out of 7 orders within a month and a half and didn't even respond to my write in complaint about their pan pizza being so undercooked with a gooey top half of the crust to such an extent that I threw half the pizza away. I was glad I found out TimeOut Tavern delivered... but now my opinion is greatly mixed... I have ordered the spicy steamed shrimp most of the time I've placed an order with them... The first time they were pretty good with a moderate dusting of spices. The 2nd time they were about the same... the third time they had so little spice on them it was as if they had been rinsed off before being placed in the carry out box. Now tonight they have totally gone to the other extreme... Between the amount of spices poured on the shrimp and the water from the steaming process, The spice coating was like a thick paste!... Okay; that's the one steadfast item. The other is their fat plump and juicy chicken wings. My sister had added to my call in order the second time I ordered from them, asking for a half dozen wings with barbecue sauce and ranch dressing. The order arrived with mine as expected but the ranch dressing and celery sticks were missing from the wings, but luckily I still had a ranch dressing packet from Dominos in the fridge.. Tonight I ordered a half dozen wings and decided to try the Bless Your Heart Sauce which the driver who took the order stated starts out sweet and gets hotter from the Carolina Peppers they use in it.... Truth be told... If you love Apple cider vinegar and can drink a half cup of it straight up , you will love this sauce.... because there is nothing sweet about it! It starts out like a cross of Apple cider vinegar and sweet pickle juice (heavy on the vinegar!) and immediately gets so hot there is no tasting the chicken or the vinegar after a few bites... And they actually have the audacity to charge extra for this sauce as if there is something special about it!!!!
For a Restaurant / Sports Bar / Whatever... It is appalling that there is no consistency in their product, let alone that someone in management actually thinks the Bless Your Heart Sauce is worth the extra cost. You want a good sauce???? Try this mix I used when I was stationed in Honduras with limited availability for ingredients other than my spices that were shipped in my hold baggage.... Base - Tomato paste and Elderberry Jelly about 50/50. To this add a small amount of Sesame oil, Teriyaki Sauce, a touch of Worcestershire Sauce and finish off with finely minced garlic and a tsp of salt then puree in a blender, thinning it with pineapple-orange juice as needed until the desired consistency is reached . Then round off the flavor with Thyme, Basil, Marjoram, Rosemary, and to spice it up, keep adding a 2 to 1 ratio of Hungarian Hot Paprika and Cayenne Pepper... stir/blend thoroughly then let sit 5 min before taste testing... When tasting it .. the hot paprika and cayenne should start to shine through about a minute after putting it in your mouth; giving plenty of time to savor the chicken And the sweetness before it converts to heat. The next bite with sauce should easily quell the heat and start rebuilding to a slightly higher intensity... repeat, repeat , repeat... Now that's how hot wings are supposed to be!!!!... not the first bite forcing the immediate question of how could anyone possibly repeat...
Read moreI would have NEVER thought to stop here for dinner... My sister brought me here tonight after she played pool here last night and she tried the food! WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE! I just had THE BEST fried shrimp in many, many years! Large lightly breaded shrimp with great cocktail sauce! Plenty on the plate! Well worth the $15. I believe this shrimp was the best I've ever had, and I grew up on the coast of North Carolina! The crinkle fries were hot and crispy. The coleslaw was excellent. Appeared to me to be homemade! I had a doctor pepper to drink. My sister ordered us a cream brule (sp?) after our main coarse.... Oh my.... My my my.... Homemade cream brule at a tavern!?? YES! The sanitation rating was 98.5%. Parking was plentiful and the restaurant was clean. It got a bit loud at times, but this is a tavern. Pool tables, games. .. The men's bathroom was even cleaner than I thought it would be! My sister ordered a crab soup or something and said it was perfect! The staff was friendly and professional... I cannot wait to go back and try something new on the menu! Great job to the kitchen at...
Read moreWe have been there twice. The first time the bartender was attentive, enthusiastic, funny. The second time the bartender was nice but seemed inexperienced. They serve barfood. On my first trip I had the roast beef sandwich with fries. I loved both! It was the perfect portion. Very flavorful! My boyfriend had the wings with their special sauce. The bartender said it was the hottest. He said it contained "Carolina Reaper" peppers in it. It actually was sweet but had no heat at all so my boyfriend was disappointed. The second time we were there he had the "Atomic" wings. They were good with the right amount of heat. I had a Philly Cheese steak sandwich. I was not fond of it. It is not the same kind of Philly I am used to. I wouldn't order it again. The atmosphere is typical "bar" but they have a nice jukebox selection, pool tables, dart boards, and a small deck outside. They have nightly specials and a quiz night. I would highly recommend Timeout Tavern for a fun place to hang out and for...
