After a day long road trip, returning to Iowa City we stopped for a late-afternoon meal at Newt's Cafe in Nichols Iowa. Newt’s is now located at what used to be the Catfish Place. The building has been remodeled and is now a clean and pleasant atmosphere. Sporting a checked tile floor and fire place it is definitely a cozy, comfortable place. This is a small cafe but suitable for the small town in which it is located. Staff indicated that their menu is relatively new and they are regularly adding new items. Some menu items included Burgers, tenderloins, fish sandwich as well as pizzas and wraps. The menu includes side orders of tater tots in place of fries. We were told there was a vote and tater tots won! All menu items are baked as opposed to fried. I also noted some breakfast items including breakfast burritos.
