Unusual in that there is no fryer, so even the tater tots are baked. We had reuben and Mediterranean paninis. We saw a full pizza and sandwich menu, basically pick your own ingredients. Very tasty and good portions. We were there at 2 pm after lunch rush, so the friendly cook/server/owner had time to chat with us. Very pleasant, homey, clean but aging decor. Sandwiches in the 8-10$ range. Beer available but not a feature. We live 10 miles away and we will eat here again.

A small town delicious gem! The biscuits and gravy are truly amazing! More of a biscuit pot pie, or calzone, it was flaky, crisp, and so filling. Like nothing I've ever had. Hand made as are all of the dishes. Cinnamon rolls are huge with sugar frosting. Pizzas are one size with a perfect baked cheese layer. And don't miss the daily specials. Priced to fill the family. You won't walk away hungry.

The best small town cafe I have been to in a long, long time. Fantastic classic American food, a menu with good variety, and very affordable prices. The owner is so friendly and gets to know all of her customers. You really feel the love here. Can't recommend this little gem enough!

After a day long road trip, returning to Iowa City we stopped for a late-afternoon meal at Newt's Cafe in Nichols Iowa. Newt’s is now located at what used to be the Catfish Place. The building has been remodeled and is now a clean and pleasant atmosphere. Sporting a checked tile floor and fire place it is definitely a cozy, comfortable place. This is a small cafe but suitable for the small town in which it is located. Staff indicated that their menu is relatively new and they are regularly adding new items. Some menu items included Burgers, tenderloins, fish sandwich as well as pizzas and wraps. The menu includes side orders of tater tots in place of fries. We were told there was a vote and tater tots won! All menu items are baked as opposed to fried. I also noted some breakfast items including breakfast burritos. I enjoyed a fish sandwich and my husband had a burger. Both of menu items were very good and not any less tasty having been baked. Also, worth noting is their exceptional lemonade. The staff was very pleasant and eager to accommodate, offering to turn on a dart machine for our...
