On our way from Ludington to Mackinaw through the beautiful interior of Michigan, our path took us through Wellston, Michigan. We were hungry, and looking ahead we saw a cafe on the north side of the road with a parking lot full of vehicles. It looked quaint and inviting, so we wheeled our truck into the lot of ANNIE'S KOZY KITCHEN. Beth, our to be server greeted us at the door, and directed us to sit wherever we liked. As you can see from our pictures, this place is full of artwork, fish mounts and Michigan culture, with a cross section of locals and excited tourists like us. We had menus and our coffee and drinks immediately. Beth was very busy, but didn't have to hurry because of her efficiency, and her help from her partner in culinary delight, Betsy, who was cooking, and serving, and modeling the latest sexy aprons that they actually had for sale. Before we left, there was no way I wasn't buying a shirt! The food was superb. The portions were very generous. Luke had biscuits and gravy, and Cesco had their hash brown casserole which was a very nice dish. My over easy eggs and crunchy hash browns were prepared perfectly. My hash browns came on a small platter, stacked deep, crunchy and brown and steaming when Beth set them in front of me. The sausage gravy was packed with sausage crumbles with a minimally sweet, savory and zesty flavor. Know we are super picky about sausage gravy 'cause my own version is really good. This was the best I have had outside our own kitchen in a great while. I am so grateful when spontaneous decisions lead to wonderful experiences like we had at Annie's Kozy Kitchen with these beautiful folks and fantastic food. I wouldn't drive by...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I love taking road trips and getting lost into rural Michigan. On this trek, we found ourselves deep in the woods on our way to to the Udell Fire Watchtower with a ferocious growl in our tummies. Wellston, Michigan is not exactly as close to a quick, convenient, 5-minute-walk-away sandwich shop as us city folks are used to, but that's what us two travelers love about this wide open country.
Kozy Kitchen was quite the sight for two hungry pairs of eyes who wear glasses (eight eyes in total between the two of us). Our server was outstanding and very, very friendly. Food very simple but inexpensive and delicious. Atmosphere was very simple as well, but was the absolutely perfect setting for the amazing day we were having. We sat right next to the window and watched a hummingbird eagerly feed from the feeder hanging outside of the window.
Yes, it's cash only. It baffles me that people DON'T have $20-$30 in their pocket and still write this place a bad review about being cash only when a gas station with an ATM is literally 50 feet away.
Kozy Kitchen isn't fancy but that's JUST the way we like it, even where we are from and I feel the utmost confident giving them a well...
Read moreOne of the worst restaurant experience we have ever had! It's a seat yourself, my husband walked in with 4 kids was not greeted. After a couple minutes standing and looking for a place to sit, I believe the owner is the one that asked how many and we said six and she replied with well that's gonna be awhile. We are ok with that because we always had stopped in the past and it was a place we made sure we would visit. I get us all set up finally at a table and in the 30 minutes we were their no menus no drinks and no silerware. My husband and I totally know and understand how busy it can get! But when another couple walks in after you have been patiently waiting for 30 minutes and gets greeted and menus and something to drink, gloves come off!! The wait staff walked past us countless times so I know we were seen! We will be finding somewhere else from here on out! It's a bummer for them because we always leave at...
