China King — Restaurant in North Carolina

We live just a couple of minutes away from China King- over the years we’ve ordered many meals to-go from them for nights that we just don’t feel like cooking. We have our go-to dishes that we are OBSESSED with and are just sooooo delicious. One of the most underrated things about the menu is their white rice. Idk what brand or type of rice they use, but it is by far the best white rice I think I’ve ever had. Like seriously- with a little soy sauce on top, it is amazing. I think it might be sticky rice because it has a nice chew and bite to it. It pairs well with the main dishes and holds up to the different sauces. Don’t sleep on the white rice. Sometimes we joke that we should just buy a bag of their rice to use in our cooking at home. Here are our recommendations from the menu:

Egg foo young with shrimp or roast pork- 18/10, generous portion size and good amount of fillings. REALLY yummy

Bean Curd Szechuan Sauce 10,000/10 - this is tofu, for those of you who don’t know. And this is THE BEST TOFU ever. Even if you don’t like tofu you should still order this because it is delicious. My husband doesn’t like tofu, yet he REQUESTS the bean curd every time we order from china King. Sometimes we even get 2 orders of bean curd- it is THAT good. Also good with Homestyle sauce or garlic sauce. We do get the orange bean curd and general tso’s bean curd occasionally as well.. but these ones have a bit of a heavier fry and are sweeter which we have to be in the mood for

Hot and Sour soup 9/10 (me), 10/10 (husband)- my husband SWEARS by this. I like it well enough and will have a bowl. It has a really good flavor and has a lot of veggies and egg. Is it better than egg foo young or the bean curd? In my opinion, no… but in my husband’s opinion he thinks it’s the best thing in the menu and can eat a large size all by himself. Their soups are all insanely cheap even for the large size which is also a plus. Soups definitely give you amazing bang for your buck.

Chicken fried rice - 8/10 - this is kind of just your good ol’ chicken fried rice. Nothing fancy, nothing crazy, but a good addition to the meal and pairs especially well with the hot and sour soup. Pretty solid and has good flavor

Admittedly, we haven’t really tried a whole lot else from their menu. We’ve discovered that we love these few dishes and just don’t want anything else because we can’t imagine other dishes as tasting as good as these. I’m sure that there are a lot of other really good things on their menu, but we’re too obsessed with the bean curd, egg foo young, and hot and sour soup to try anything else. We have, however, been thinking about trying the Chinese doughnuts for dessert next time we order from them. Sounds interesting and like a nice sweet treat at the end of the meal.

Also, pro tip: if you leave a generous tip during the holiday season they will give you a really nice Chinese bamboo calendar. (But you should leave a generous tip all times of the year because the food is amazing, pricing is super cheap compared to other businesses in the area, and I’m pretty sure it’s family owned and operated and they always have done an amazing job with our food orders)

This is my sorry order of CHICKEN LO MIEN with VEGETABLES from CHINA KING IN OCEAN ISLE BEACH! I had just a FEW pieces of veggies and very FEW pieces of Chicken ON TOP! Yet was charged MORE and this was the SECOND ORDER because there was NO Veggies in the last order so my husband had to DRIVE ALL THE WAY BACK TO GET THIS BOX OF "NOODLES"...So wasted MONEY, TIME, BEING HUNGRY AND GAS for this!! I told yall CHINA KING IN OIB I'D DO THIS...didn't care did ya?? Okies then...peeps here y'all go. This is what you'll get from CHINA KING IN OIB! "Noodles with a tiny bit of veggies and chicken" for ALOT OF MONEY!!!! I'm upset and this woman that answered the phone there when I called after the first order about NO VEGGIES reminded me that I had Carrots and cabbage in it..."well that's not Veggies hun" i told her! Where are my veggies? She said cabbage! I am very upset after he went up and they said "we fix it for you" yet THEY DID NOT!!! THIS IS SAD AND SO SO DECEITFUL...AND TO CHARGE MORE MONEY???? LAST...

Went to get some good wings and other items. There was a lady working that I have never seen before. She was extremely rude for no reason. I have never seen nor met this lady before but her attitude toward me and my order seemed to be an issue. She did not smile, say hi, or even make eye contact. However, she did with the other females who were waiting for food. Once she handed me the order, she somewhat slammed it down on the counter as well as instead of handing me my card, she tossed it on the counter. Don't do that! Especially when your customer handed the payment to you. Just rude. Where is the other lady? Please bring her back. She is more welcoming and engaging. Other than this, the food was...
