As a first time visitor to this part of North Carolina, Country Pride doesn't look like anything very impressive or special at first glance. It's connected to a truck stop and fuel station with lots of traffic in and out. After reading a few positive reviews, we chose this spot for lunch and left completely blown away by the food quality/price/value.
For starters, the soup/salad bar was better than any chain restaurant salad bar I've ever had. A meal all by itself, really. Very clean, fresh and full of fruits/veggies and some unique items I've never seen on a salad bar. It was still pretty early in the day when we stopped (11:30ish) but a lunch crowd was quickly forming. This soup/salad bar is on a whole different level compared to places like Ruby Tuesday's, where I often go when I want to fill up on some veg.
Country Pride's (amazing) soup/salad bar is included with (most) entrees.
Speaking of entrees, they have a "special" they do on each day of the week. On Friday's, it's all you can eat whitefish (fried or grilled) with your choice of a side item AND the soup/salad bar AND as much toasted garlic bread you can handle. So. Much. Food.
The price: 13.99. For all that. And the waitress was nice enough to offer me another plate of fish right before I packed up a to go box.
The fish plate was outstanding. If they are taking a little bit of extra time to bring out your food, stay patient because it's definitely worth it. Good things take time, especially when they aren't pulled from a freezer.
Will be returning very...
Read moreMy husband and I ate here while visiting from out of town and we will never be back. I honestly would have rather ate food/snacks from the convenient store next door. The reviews of this place are good and there seemed to be some "regulars" there at the same time we were... but I can't figure out why. Maybe it was the time of day or maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but it was far from good. I ordered the chicken finger mac and cheese with the ranch sauce on the side. The mac and cheese was HORRIBLE and I love mac and cheese. It was dry and very very bland with no taste and it wasn't very cheesy at all. The chicken fingers on top were also dry and tasted old/like they were cooked way before we got there. The sauce I (thankfully) ordered on the side but it was terrible! On the salad bar the lettuce and onions were not very fresh. The fruit was mushy/old (apart from the pineapple and grapes which were in decent shape). Even the vanilla pudding had a slightly strange taste to it. I can honestly say the glass of water I ordered was the best part of my meal. If we are ever back in town we will not be stopping here again, and I will not recommend...
Read moreTraveling in a semi with my husband, we have ate some questionable food. This place by far has been the worst!! I ordered chopped steak, eggs, hashbrowns, toast. The ONLY hot item on my plate was the 2 medium eggs. The chopped steak was BLACK and so tough I almost asked for a steak knife to cut it. The hubby ordered sirloin and eggs, same, everything cold. His steak was suppose to be medium well, He cut into it, blood went everywhere. The waitress came to our table 4 times...1 to seat us and get drink order. 2.Take our food order. 3.Bring us our order 4. Bring us our check. When she asked if everything was OK, we explained why we did NOT eat our food. She then went into telling us that is the normal around there. That so many people have complained to the manager, they just don't care any more. I was thinking... well homegirl, you saw my burnt hamburger steak and still brought it to the table and then disappeared until you wanted money! Eat here at your own risk!!! Horrible experience for us and according to the waitress our food...
