Fat Fellas new location has opened. And what a stunning opening it is. From the moment you walk in, to the second you take your seat, you are greeted and hugged with down south history. They have new and improved menu. Tons of new and delicious items to eat. Really there's no way to suggest just one. You have to just stop by and try it all. A new signature meal, is the "DOWN SOUTH BLT"... This bad boy is delicious. Fried green tomatoes, lettuce and mayo sit on top a slice of succulent deep-fried pork belly. The wait staff is fantastic. They are the definition of Southern Hospitality. These ladies welcome you with a smile, good conversation and a dash of southern charm. They make you feel like you're at home, regardless if you're home grown or an tourist. If you're in a rush, call ahead, and slide through the drive through, where you will be met with a smile and your food. The decor is something that brings you right to the 40s, 50s, and 60s. If you've ever grown up on a farm, whether northern, or southern you'll feel at home. From the old tractor grills, to the iconic gas pumps, you know you've walked into a taste of the past. Hard times couldn't keep this restaurant or area down. Fat Fellas BBQ and Grille of Newport, North Carolina along with most of the east coast, was hit hard by Hurricane Florence. The new location features wood from trees that Florence bought down. From the paneling and bar, to the tables and light fixture, all are reclaimed wood from a devastating time. It serves as a constant reminder, that when winds blow, and floods come, we all can rise if we stand together. If you're looking for good food, good people, and a down south ambience, you'll find none better than Fat Fellas BBQ & Grille

Had breakfast there with my infant daughter. It was very good and serving size was adequate and coffee was very good. We used to go to Havelock North Carolina to Bayside to get breakfast but they have since closed down so now this is our go to place to get breakfast Had a western omelette a side of grits, butter, toast, and orange juice. Daughter had chocolate chip waffle and five strips of bacon she had orange juice as well for the price paid under 35 bucks for everything tip the waitress 10 bucks because service was excellent and food was delicious. I haven’t gone there yet for lunch, but will make time to do that at a later date, but if you were interested in a good breakfast, a calm atmosphere then this is the place for you.

Our family loved the southern style deep fried chicken with french fries and cucumbers as sides, fried fish plate with collards and cucumbers, bbq nachos, and a chicken quesadilla with fries. We chose fried pickles as a starter. The sweet tea is off the hook! Service is spectacular This place filled up our tummies with food still to spare!! Thank you so much for our family lunch first time at Fat Fellas! Will return! Cash preferred or a tax will apply, although not too pricey. Very clean establishment

My husband and I went here for supper this evening. We ordered the fried chicken and bbq combo special. The chicken was not warm at all and was very dry. The BBQ was actually cold and dry and the plate was full of water underneath the BBQ. It had a slight smell like the fat had been frozen too long. The mashed potatoes had a good flavor but were cold as well as the gravy. Collards were good and were the only thing that was hot like it should be. Our waitress was very polite and when she came back to our table to bring our ticket, she asked if we wanted a to go box for our food. We told her no and explained why. She apologized. When I went to pay the bill I reiterated what I told her at the table. She called over her manager and I told her how bad the BBQ was. Before I could finish, she very nasty said " did you tell your waitress before now? We would have offered you something else " I explained that we told her the first time she came back, which was to bring the bill. The manager, VERY rudely, said " oh well, I'm sorry, have a good weekend!" I was born and raised in this area and have NEVER been treated so crappy at a restaurant as I was tonight. We will NEVER go back or recommend to anyone. Seems the Health Department would have a hay day with the food not being kept at the proper...

My family and I gave Fat Fellas 3 tries. The first time was at the old location. My husband and I both had hamburgers and the kids had chicken tenders. The food was just ok. The "patties" were definitely not fresh and tasted frozen. The only plus were the hush puppies. The second time, months later, was at the new location. We went for breakfast. The food was NOT seasoned at all. The shredded hash browns were cold, hard and disgusting. The home fries were also hard, not seasoned and just plain gross. The server said she would bring out hush puppies, but they never came. We also asked another server and she said she would get them, never happened. Come to find out, they don't serve them during breakfast. We gave it one more try during lunch hour. We ordered 3 different burgers. They were all flat, frozen and gross. The buns fell apart and it was just loaded with mustard, mayo and ketchup. No one ate their entire meal. The server asked if we wanted boxes and we kindly declined. I am so confused how this restaurant has great reviews. Maybe we are ordering the wrong things?! The decor in the new restaurant is awesome but the food sucks so maybe put money toward awesome food instead of old...
