We visited the Grill today for first day opening. Please take that into consideration when reading this review as it’s a first day review. 3.5 stars is my actual rating. This is a small, lightly decorated eating place beside Lowe’s Foods near St. James. The menu has decent variety with a few repeating themes. For example you can get a burger as a sandwich with chips or as a hamburger steak with mushrooms/onions and two sides. Prices are comparable with other places. You can come here, have a decent meal and be a part of the “clean plate club” if you know what I mean. We ordered the fried pickles for an appetizer. The pickle was of good quality, not wimpy and sliced just thick enough. Breading was a little thick. Flavor was spot on. The only problem is it’s more like one pickle cut into chip slices. We counted and there were 10 pickle chips in our basket for two people. So the volume was lacking for a $7 appetizer; in particular this specific appetizer compared to like appetizers at other places. Next up, we ordered different burgers. Flavor was great! Bun is perfect with glistening top and toasted, buttery inside. Really well seasoned burger! It comes with chips. The chips are ruffles chips and not house made kind. The onion rings are great. Please note it’s an upcharge of $3 to sub out your ruffles chips for fresh, crispy onion rings; $2 upcharge if you get fries instead of chips. We finished off with the ultimate chocolate cake. Very intense chocolate, just needed to be thawed out a little more before serving. Service staff was great! Dessert prices and drink prices are good which makes up for the upcharge for substitutions worth it. All-in-all good visit and we will return to try other things. A few minor tweaks, a consideration on the chips versus fries and it becomes a sustainable...
Read moreShame on us for not trying this place sooner! Just because it’s not in Southport or Oak Island doesn’t mean it’s not worth the short drive. Trust us—you’ll be glad you did!
We visit the area 2–3 times a year for vacation, and somehow, we never ventured up to this restaurant until now. Well, that’s changed because not only did we love it on our first visit, but we also came back a second time in the same week!
Everything we tried was outstanding, and the friendly staff made the experience even better. On our first visit, it was a bit busy, so there was a slight wait between ordering and getting our food. But it’s clear this is a local favorite because shortly after we arrived, people were lining up outside.
The restaurant is relatively small with not many tables inside, but there is an outside area and if you hit it at the right time when the sun is not beaming directly overhead, it’s quite lovely.
Let’s talk about the food—absolute perfection. • The meatloaf? Excellent. • The macaroni and cheese? Creamy, flavorful, and impossible to resist. • The onion rings? Outstanding. • And the patty melt? Exactly what dreams are made of!
If you’re debating whether to check this place out, here’s our advice: run, don’t walk. To those about to nosh,...
Read moreFirst time trying this new restaurant with my husband. I got the Monterey chicken with steamed brocolli and mashed potatoes; and he got pulled BBQ pork with fries and green beans. All in all, a nice meal. Chicken was well seasoned and tender, cheese that topped it was nice quality. Brocolli tender but not overcooked, mashed potatoes nice. Husbands pulled pork was amazing, very moist and nicely seasoned. Some of the best pulled pork I've had. Fries were good. Reason for giving 4 stars is that his green beans were crazy spicy, nice flavor but spice level was high. If he would have known he would have gotten a different side since he doesn't react to spice well, maybe update the menu to saying that they are spicy 🔥 instead of just seasoned. Besides that, it is a clean and home feel eatery; food came out at a decent time considering how busy they were. Service was good. We will go again in the future and try...
