If you are looking for good seafood in Gaston County, go here… Yes, there will be a wait if you get there after 6 pm. The food is very good, the service is quick and the atmosphere is quirky. Imagine a starter ranch type home that morphed into an eatery. I am not saying this as a negative, only that it is not the mainstream uber modernism that you see in restaurant design. The focus is the food and what deliciousness it is !
We got there early because the week before we got there after 6 pm and it was packed. People were sharking the large lot looking for a space to park. Going early and by early I mean, 5ish, we still had to had to look for a space but found one on the first pass. The restaurant does have really large booths for big parties in the back. We sat next to one. They look like if you get in the middle of the bench, you can only hope that someone has Purell because 6 people will have to get up to let you out to wash your hands. In looks like a great way to corral children though.
Our food came out 15 mins after ordering. It can only assume that the cooks are constantly frying up everything on the menu because I doubt the food is sitting around under a hot lamp with the crowds there. I got the large fried shrimp, and it was really good. The food was piled up and made me feel ok about the price. I have had better seafood, but not this far from the ocean. The Man got the filet flounder and shrimp. We both agreed we liked and will go back. The waitress kept us hydrated as we powered through. The drinks were never more than half empty and a good half/half blend.
What we didn’t like was the rushed feeling. I understand the management wants to get the people fed, paid and out so that the next group can sit down. However, its tacky to bring the check while people are still eating, and you can visually see them still eating. Also, don’t offer sweet potatoes that are the size of a meatball. Next time, I will...
Read moreMy Mom, my aunt and myself all enjoyed the fish and the hometown feel. The whole flounder was fresh and cooked to a perfect crisp filet of fish. The fixings were awesome. Onion rings, tartar sauce was beautifully prepared a fresh made as well as the slaw and hushpuppys although I never really knew who or why people call those oblong cornbread pieces hush puppies?? Weird right, but excellant mix and the potatoes and sweet potatoes were very good. My Mother and Aunt both enjoyed their filet of flounder so overall our experience at Riverside Fish camp was a good experience and our server was precious and up to speed with the menu and our needs. KC or Cassy was a jewel. Thank you KC because you have the same name as me and we talked about that so hope you remember us and know that we appreciated your hospitality and your humble spirited personality to serve my family with a genuine heart of simply caring about your customers and making people smile. Way to go KC because your played a big part in our dining last night with Riverside Fish camp. Hope your boss is aware of your genuine work ethics and warm hospitality you give to your customers. You are a keeper! Thank you so much for making my Moms night an unforgettable evening with...
Read moreUpdate 05/2025- been 7 months so tried again for husbands birthday. Didn't know they switched to styrofoam takeout plates. Big yuck for hot fried foods for me. Flounder is so thin only half of each piece is edible, the other half is just hard jerky. The slaw is STILL trash and tastes spoiled with the cabbage having a rubber texture. Will continue to make the drive to Lincolnton for fish. Hate they went downhill, used to be amazing.
We always get take out. Have tried to eat here every few months to continue to give the local place a chance. This is strike 4 and wont try again. Its hit or miss with other people but for us its always something. This time our food was very greasy, deviled crabs were burnt, shrimp was rubbery and the slaw is absolutely disgusting(this is every time so assuming its just their recipe, its got a spoilt taste) was charged $1 for cocktail sauce because I also wanted tarter sauce. That was ok except they left out the tartar sauce and gave me 2 containers of ranch for some reason. Will be the last time, we will make the 30 min drive to somewhere else when we get the taste for fish. Its just not worth spending $30 for food to...
