I used to work at Skippers and they have always been a very popular place to eat in Henderson but ever since Regina stopped running the place, the service has been absolutely TERRIBLE! I’m not going off one experience. I’m speaking of many! Everytime I order something from here I swear it’s going to be the last time! I have literally been sitting in their parking lot sick trying to order a to go plate for the last 45min. They have one customer in the whole parking lot which is parked in the dine in section. I called back to back and literally watched through the door while the 2 employees didn’t answer the phone. Just out of spite I kept calling and finally after calling for 15min straight they answered. They said they didn’t have any stew so I said I would call right back after I spoke to my bf. Of course, when I call back, it took another 15 minutes and many many back-to-back calls to get them to answer Of course I called back and it takes another 15 minutes and many back-to-back calls to get them to answer. So then I go through the new “to go” window to get my order. I literally rang the bell over and over. Sat there for ten min. I didnt want to get out because I was sick. A lady came to the room where the window was and looked straight at me and walked back out. They had absolutely NO customers! I sat there another 10min ringing the bell! Again NOT one customer in the whole place!! Finally another girl comes to the window and actually acknowledges me! I never leave reviews for anything! Everytime I go to skippers for the last few years I’ve been disappointed. We even ordered catering from Skippers for Christmas and when my dad went to pick up the food they didn’t even have our order. Had no clue what we were talking about. But yet our bill was paid upfront? Back in the day when Regina ran Skippers and ppl like Ms. Patsy was manager stuff like this would NEVER happen. Ppl have no pride in their work anymore! I can’t tell you how many ppl from Henderson say they don’t go to Skippers anymore due to the horrible service. Too many to count!! That place used to be packed! Not anymore! What’s so bad is they actually...

It was okay, most likely will never go back. After walking in took a couple min for a server to say sit yourself as there is no sign saying to wait or go sit, while the cashier, probably owner, who was right there just walked off like she didn't see us walk in. There were a few other tables and wait staff running around looking lost. And the place needs a really good cleaning. Like the white salt shaker was sticky & dirty.

Food was ok. We each got bbq sandwiches w/fries, and he got some crab bites too. Bbq is a Western NC style & not Eastern style as their menu said, but was cooked well & not over sauced. My spouse didn't get slaw but I asked for it on the side of the sandwich and it was lacking some flavor - needed some vinegar, salt & pepper. Tea was good. But again staff were lost or busy having family time.

I would say this place was probably hopping 20years ago & may still be popular with the older folks but it just isn't up to snuff.

Also, no child of any age should go into the kitchen. The owner had her grandbaby or staffs baby who was not even 2 on her hip and him going in the back with her. And while it's awesome staff are family or act like family and have a family meal, do it after hours not while you have customers to wait on because your wait staff shouldn't be sitting and eating or hanging out while they...

My husband called an order in for stew. When he walked in the take out order side door, there were a few customers who had walked in & placed their order, so they were waiting. My husband, CALLED HIS IN, SO IT WAS READY WHEN HE GOT THERE! A customer complained out loud wanting to know why he was being waited on so fast. The cashier was in the middle of ringing my husband up, STOPPED, & started waiting on the complaining customer. When my husband spoke up that that was not right the cashier CUSSED my husband out & told him that he looked like a crack head! AN EMPLOYEE AT AN ESTABLISHMENT, TOLD MY HUSBAND, A PAYING CUSTOMER, THAT HE LOOKED LIKE A CRACKHEAD! I called to complain to management & she passed me off to one of the owners, Allen. I called him on his cell phone, told him exactly what happened, my husband even got on the phone & told him word for word what was said! He hurried off the phone with us & said that he was going to "handle it"! It's been over a week & we haven't heard back from him. I grew up in this town. Some of my best friends worked at Skippers as teens! My family owned one of the oldest restaurants in this town & we are business owners as well & we would have NEVER, EVER allowed this to happen or keep an employee that treated one of our...

Skipper’s used to be such a nice place to eat. Used to be. No longer is that the case. Apparently today was “bring your kids to work day”. Food used to be large portions and reasonable prices. Now, it’s smaller portions for higher prices. When food arrived, barbecue was Luke warm and tater tots were cold. There are 9 tables of 4 or less in here and one waitress taking orders. While there are 3 other young ladies passing out menus and delivering beverages. After asking my beverage lady why that was, she said, Paige doesn’t want any help. Which I took to mean it cuts into her tips. From a customer viewpoint, it shouldn’t be about tips, it should be about service. Today is the second time in the last 45 days that I have experienced the above described situation, here. It will be self correcting. I’ll be surprised if they are still open for business a year from now. Such a shame too.

If the waitstaff won't tell you to seat yourself, there should be a sign at the entrance! Pay at the counter after as well. Service was incredibly slow. By the time my food got to the table, it was barely lukewarm. What really got me was the ever-so-slight hint of mold in my ice water! 🤢 BBQ was okay. Coleslaw was good, albeit with a slightly different taste (maybe allspice?) Best part of the meal was the free hushpuppies. They came out fast, piping hot! I really wanted to like this spot, but alas. 😔

The Skipper will keep you on an even keel when you're hungry. For travellers you get a tasty spot frequented by local's, serving good food at great value and not too far off the freeway. Check all the cars waiting off to the side for order pick up. I never really cared for hush puppies till I tried the ones at Skippers, still hot. Do I want an extra basket? Hellz yeah!
