My wife reserved a table on July 2nd for date night. We had been looking for something different, an upper-tier dining experience that wasn’t stuffy. We were running late and called ahead to let them know we were on our way, and they were courteous and accommodating. We were seated immediately, and our server recommend the pakoras as an appetizer, something new to both of us. My wife is incredibly sensitive to gluten, having Celiac’s and requires attention to preparation for her safety but they were able to prepare everything we ordered in a gluten-safe environment- they’re totally informed and prepared for this, and that was reflected after the meal when she experienced no gluten reaction. SCORE! The appetizer was served and half way through, we already knew there would be a second visit. I ordered my favorite, a steak, and she had “Sweet Tea Marinated Trout.” Our food was served at the right temperature and in prompt fashion. My steak was Brasstown Beef. We raised beef cattle when I was a kid, and this tasted like something we raised ourselves, it’s so much better than mass produced, inhumane feedlot beef- it’s humanely processed and the taste is on point. Presentation was beautiful on both plates- the trout was served with risotto and fresh vegetables, and was just delicious. (she gave me a taste!) She had an adult blueberry lemonade which was made with fresh blueberries, and I had sweet tea. I like my sweet tea like, sticky insulin shock sweet and they were able to make it as sweet as I wanted it, and kept it full. We shared a dessert, I forget what it is called, a blueberry cornbread and cream cobbler, but it was some of the best stuff I ever put In my mouth. The staff is youthful and edgy, while being polite and attentive- something we like. By now, readers have surmised that we liked it. We were pleased in every way we could be, and we are both looking forward to our next visit. The menu will change seasonally, so it will never be boring. Come out and support this exciting dining alternative, you’ll be glad that you did. If we support them today, they can be there for us tomorrow. Wade and Angel,...

Fantastic addition to the restaurant landscape in our area. The Crown truly delivers on their promise to bring 'innovative takes on traditional regional cooking.' First, everything our group ordered was delicious and we ordered a LOT...nearly one of everything on the menu. The small plates, which we made quick work of, were a refreshing assortment of flavorful recipes that consisted of locally sourced ingredients woven into thoughtful creations that shared traditional southern styles with inventive herbs and sauces all engineered to produce some truly unique flavors and dishes. Pakoras, for instance, a chickpea, sweet tater, and onion fritter beautifully fried to a crunchy crispness with a moist tender inside exploding with savory flavors (think of a hush-puppy that just won't hush). The appetizer size portions of the 'small dishes' are just enough to gear you up for the rest of the menu which promises to build upon the same creativity for your entree. Among our group, we had Stuffed Carolina Trout with Candy Mtn Farms (local) bok choy; Curry of the Moment which was a low heat green curry over super fresh veggies and rice and sided with a perfectly grilled chicken breast, yes, curry in Brasstown! where Appalachia meets spices from the East (India, not Raleigh); and the Comfort Dish dujour which was a meatloaf from local grass fed beef served with potatoes and the finest crispy brussels sprouts you will ever enjoy. We ate like pigs and I can’t go through all the individual dishes. Suffice to say, we all enjoyed everything about this new establishment starting with our arrival and realizing this place exists in Brasstown NC, to the vibe when you walk in and soak up the decor, to the impeccable service (thanks Emily!), and finally the food and wine selections. I've included some pictures with names of dishes if you’re curious to see the presentation, which is also world-class. Obviously I recommend this place if you love great food and an excellent...

It’s been a month since my daughter made a chef’s table reservation for 7 as part of my 70th birthday celebration.

First let me say our concerns were voiced to the wait staff and emailed to the person who worked with us on the reservation (zero response) and later emailed to the website general mailbox.

The chef’s table is nothing more than a regular reservation. Nothing. We were seated in a corner table at the bar. Having been here numerous times, it was easy to navigate the menu. Drinks were expertly made. The trouble started when the appetizers arrived. Because the number of flies on our food and in the Brussels bowl appetizer were astonishing. You could not shoo the flies away.

Our wait staff told us, as did the only response we got to emails, that the restaurant was close to farms so just deal with the flies. Nor did management offer to move us away from the windows full of flies. Hundreds of flies. Honestly, I grew up on a hog farm ten miles from the Crown, with screen doors and windows. I never ever ate with flies. My mama cooked for a dozen field hands every day, and we could enjoy our meal without swatting flies that would not fly away out of the bowl.

We returned our bowl of Brussels as it was literally crawling with flies. We ate quickly, without dessert and left, never dreaming we would basically be told to just deal with it and offered 10% off two entrees. We won’t need your discount. Finally, it’s disappointing that a restaurant of this caliber would allow such an unhealthy space and expect you to believe it’s the...
