Update: I am revising my rating to 3 stars, I was being too harsh given that the targeted customers of the restaurants are for non-Chinese. I want to point out that there are quite some difference in authentic Chinese food and the food sold in here, meaning if you like the the food in here then you probably won''t like the authentic ones in China, vice versa. So put yourself in the right basket and choose wisely. The following is my original review:
I went in with my friends and kids. I was discouraged by the pictures of the food and wanted to walk, but my friends insisted, so I stayed. I looked through the menu several times and couldn't find an authentic one, finally settled on kungpao chicken hoping such a popular item shouldn't go wrong.
Oh I was wrong! My son tasted one bite and immediately run to the bathroom to spit it out, I was a little bit angry thinking he was picky, then I tried, man it tasted bad, I took the whole plate and dumped them in the trash. That was his favorite food in China, in here, it tasted like whatever that are raw mixed up with soy sauce, and trust me, the soy sauce was not the good one. By the way, if you decided to sprinkle the peanuts on top of it without cooking them, please at least buy some quality ones, okay?
Let me tell you one simple recipe guys, just slice some green onion and gingers, stir fry in a pan with oil for a few seconds until they smell good, then add your sliced chickens, keep stir frying until chicken is fully cooked, add cucumber or other of your favorite vegetables and stir, add some good soy sauce and serve. If you want to preserve the tenderness of the chicken, mix them with sweet potato powders (a little) and let sit for 5 minutes before dropping them into the pan.
Or if you really want to go to a Chinese restaurants, there are so many authentic ones in Raleigh, Cary, Durham or Chapel Hill. Please go try those and thank me later.
To the owner, I don't mind that you buy some precooked rolls or dumplings from Costco or trader Joe and sell them for twice the price, at least those are edible. But if you want to cook your own food, please...
Read moreThe most dishonest restaurant owners I’ve ever met.
The first time we tried Zhang Garden the food and service was excellent... the General Tsos was possibly the best I’ve ever had. However the last 2 times have been horrible... The last two times they have told numerous lies, almost too many too count. One of their numerous lies was telling us we ordered Sesame Chicken instead of General Tsos. We know what we ordered, thanks. They tried to tell us we ordered fried rice, not white and told us we could only have 1 extra pack of soy sauce but the first time we came they gave us 5 extra packs with no problem. They told us they couldn’t find our order and said one of our combos didn’t include an egg roll, after they told us clearly on the phone the combo included an egg roll. I could go on and on about their lies.... you can’t trust anything these people say.
I think the owners either have remarkably bad memories or they just are total liars..probably a combination of both. I have 7 family members in Hillsborough NC.. Zhang Garden has lost a lot of business. You might want to just pretend this place doesn’t exist and...
Read moreIf you're ordering from Zheng Garden, be sure to check your order before you leave. The last three times we've ordered, something has gone wrong. Twice, I didn't bother going back and just threw the food away because they messed up the order, and I ended up losing money. The most recent time, my husband went back to get the order fixed, and they were extremely rude, even blaming us for their mistake. Three visits ago, I got food poisoning from undercooked shrimp, which was a serious issue. While I understand mistakes can happen, serving undercooked food is unacceptable. This has happened repeatedly, and I believe it's due to a language barrier, as they don't seem to understand English well. While I have nothing against that, if you can't properly understand or communicate, you should hire someone who can, to ensure orders are correct. It's frustrating to deal with this consistently, and it's unacceptable for...
